The good games on the Wii are generally much more interesting to me than the majority of good games on the other consoles. One of Nintendo's goals was to promote uniqueness, diversity, and imagination in games. Seeing as the system is the only one not suffering from an over-representation of the first/third-person shooter genre, and that even Nintendo's own franchise "rehashes" tend to have a radical new twist on them, I'd say that's been a relative success. Another stated goal was to expand the audience for games, which was accomplished beyond anyone's expectations--success. Another goal was to reclaim marketshare--success. Another was to revolutionize controls--both of Nintendo's competitors have since scrambled to implement motion controls, so that's a success regardless of whether you like it or not. Another goal was to make money--another obvious success. Another was to cash in on the growing "retro" market--success. Another was to open Nintendo platforms to smaller developers via a direct download option for budget games--yet another success.

There is nothing the Wii set out to do that was a failure. The system has been an unbridled success in nearly every measurable way. The bias or personal dissapointment of a few fanboys on the Internet doesn't even start to enter the equation.

I am only convinced now that the Wii is a failure as a console
not financially
but boy is it not worth getting
well maybe now it is since its so cheap ...
I think you're going to have to float me a definition of 'failure' as it applies to home gaming consoles. I bought my Wii years ago and the damn thing should have burst into flames by now given how much I run it. My Wii library is smash hit after smash hit. I have never been more pleased by a video game system and I say this as a person who also owns a PS3 and has owned an Xbox 360.

If offering unbridled nigh orgasmic levels of pure joy and fun is 'failing' then I hope that the Wii will continue its upward spiral.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I can't believe the OP can't believe that an opinion/flame-bait thread has been going for more than 2 years.

Same here Flake, Wii has been the most satisfying console for me this gen also (though still don't have a 360).

Well here is what,
I dont think you should count any other console games on the wii that is all the ports and retro games...only wiiware and Wii games, which are Wii games. Not other console games playable on the Wii.
Thats like saying the ps3 is good because it has Symphony of the Night. Sure thats a great option, but that is a psx/saturn game. Its not a ps3 game.
Mario Galaxy is a Wii game.

So if we look at the Wii specific games, there are some good games.
Galaxy, Boom Blox, Metroid, and a little more

but Swiftzx, look closely at your list:
Klonoa, thats a psx game in better graphics right?
CoD, I dont think those beat the ones on the ps3/360
Metal Slug, NEO GEO game
RE4, gamecube
Okami, ps2 game
and conduit, please dont tell me this fps beats the ones on the ps3/360

No one understand me wrong, I have a Wii and I am glad to have one
because its a combination of a zillion consoles in 1, I get to play many console games on 1 device.

but lets imagine it can only play Wii games, no ports no emulation
Will it still be worth while?
at $160, maybe....now that it is 4 years old and will change next year I think
i just think that any thing outside the Nintendo games, can have a better alternative on the 360/ps3

plus not to mention the let down of the console, am not sure if others feel like me
but I had high hopes for this console to create really imaginative games with the motion thing.
It ended up for silly stuff, like shaking and browsing the menu.

the game Red Steel was my idea of what Wii games should be like,

am not talking financially
am not talking hardware quality
am not talking about ports, retro games, or gamecube games
I am talking about Wii specific games

The Last Story
Xenoblade
Pandora no Tou
Minnna no Rythym Tengoku
Billy's Boot Camp
Shape Boxing 2
Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Minna de Party 3 Yome

These are the last 7 Wii games I've bought. Tell me again that the Wii sucks.

I think he means more that the console never quite turned out the kinds of games he wanted. We were originally promised lightsaber duels for instance, and then Red Steel came out and wasn't what we expected, so a lot of folks became upset with the Wii. I think that's the kind of feeling he's trying to convey.
