My beef with Smash Bros. Brawl

Post by glynnahab »

Okay... So this is kind of silly - and very petty, I admit - but it HAS influenced my decision not to buy this game - or even play it. Here it is:

In each and every single picture I see of Mario from Brawl, I absolutely cannot get past the meticulously detailed denim overalls. It pisses me the fuck off!

To me, the Mario games always represented imagination over realism. Ridiculousness over rationality. To see Nintendo's famous mascot in the pictures with all of the ripples of his clothing and stiches in his denim in great detail - in comparison to the other more "realistic" characters like Snake - he really looks like... well... just a mascot. And by mascot, I mean high school football mascot. I keep waiting to see someone pull off his "head" and reveal some high school kid with acne and glasses wearing the trademark red shirt and blue overalls.

I don't know why this bothers me so much. This game has received univeral praise, and this is my main reason for not buying it. I know I'm being irrational about it. If they were going to do this to Mario, they should have started by making him wear JNCO jeans back in Super Mario 64.

The N64 didn't have the texture memory for it.

But seriously, I don't know what your deal is either.
