Is there a reason that you ask some of these questions as multiple choice instead of as an open answer? Something like 'age in years' can be answered with a number and would be more descriptive than a multiple choice age range. If you wanted to group your data into ranges afterwards, you could still do that.
Also, make sure that any variable you actually care about is asked in such a way that you can see variability in the scores. If you get a ceiling effect or floor effect, your data won't tell you anything interesting.

Yeah, unless it's a scantron and you have to do multiple choice questions, many of these questions would be better off asking for exact numbers.J T wrote:Is there a reason that you ask some of these questions as multiple choice instead of as an open answer? I may reword some of the multiple choice questions. I think I wanted to organize it like that so I would know how to sort my results and now that I have sorted it out, I can just ask the question openly and then group afterwards.
I think for something like question 7, if I don't limit the answers to number of hours per week I would get such a wide range of answers. Or like, there are many ways to answer a question that asks how often you do something.
Do you think I should instead ask question 7 ask "How many hours a week do you play games?"
Actually, I may ask the question as above, but still leave answer choices. I feel like figuring out how many hours one plays games a week is difficult, but selecting among choices would be an easy task.

Re: Creating Suvery for Korean Game Collectors - Need Your Help
I just thought I'd update this a little bit. I finished up the questions and wrote a little introduction about myself as a collector and uploaded it to a Korean gaming site. So far the results have been pretty good and I've already gotten the 15 people I need for the assignment, but I'm gonna wait maybe about a week before I cut off the survey responses. If you want to view my post you can view it here:

Its all in Korean, but I suppose you could translate it or just look at the pictures anyways. I'm considering translating my report back into English once it is all finished, or at least sharing some of the results if they prove interesting enough.

Is that your collection? It wasn't clear from the Google translate mess.

Haha, maybe the translation route isn't so great, but yes those pictures are all from my personal collection. I've got a few more that aren't pictured, but I'll add those in another album or post later.
I'm starting to take more detailed pictures of everything in my collection and eventually I'll upload it here:

"What's up with Kimchi anyway?" should be a question on any survey intended for a Korean to answer. All the times I went to Korea, I could never get past how gross that stuff looked/smelled.
I would ask how long they play a single game on average before they feel they are 'done' with the game. I noticed that Koreans seem to grab onto a game that they like and never let go. And that's not just a starcraft comment.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

On the whole I'd say Koreans follow what is popular. The adoption rate of smartphone was extremely fast here. People prefer not to stand out. Most people won't openly speak their opinion and strive to fit in with the group. Right now popular means having a smart phone and wearing New Balance sneakers. As far as games, most of it seems to be online competitive computer games. I don't know how many Koreans actually have consoles because most parents seem to frown upon them, but any Korean with some spare change can go to a PC cafe and play any game they want for an hour or two. I think skill is also important to Koreans when choosing games. I feel like if a game can be played and beaten by anyone than it is not rewarding, so instead Koreans choose online games and arcade fighters like Tekken where one can clearly increase their skill and continue to get rewards out of the game.Flake wrote:"What's up with Kimchi anyway?" should be a question on any survey intended for a Korean to answer. From what I gleaned off the google translation the answers were pretty interesting. Almost all of my meager experience of gaming with Koreans has been fighting games. Mostly Street Fighter series games, but at least with the guy I played with the most I found that those games came up because he didn't expect many Americans to be familiar with Kof, or any good at Tekken, which is probably true.
Amusing side story, last semester I was in the wood shop at my school putting some finishing touches on my arcade stick, when my teacher (whose from Korea, maybe late 30s) saw me and instantly asked if it was for Street Fighter. He was the only person who had a clue what it even was.
