Well, I still have yet to open the other controller. The smallest drill bit I have is 1/16.

pic

the red is where the wire should go, it should be possible to still close it even if the shaft is missing.

why are you trying so hard to put this white one back together if you haven't even done the fix?

if the shaft did break maybe you can use the front shell from the busted controller and the rear pad from this controller you have pictured. also it wouldn't hurt to clean the buttons and d-pad if they have any 15 year old hand gunk. :) use a toothbrush and some hand sanitizer.

I'm just trying to learn how to do it first.

And yes, looks like one of the shafts is broken, but not the one you circled, the one to the right. I'll have to use the front plate from the other one then.

That's actually smaller than you need. The next size or two up if you had purchased a set.

try a smaller denominator bit. since 1/16 is bigger than 1/32. you need possibly 1/8 or 3/16? hobie said you need to use a bit that is larger than 1/16. the fraction will get a larger top number and a smaller bottom number. and as both numbers get closer to each other it will get closer to a whole.

1 is very far from 32 which is smaller than 1/16
likewise
1 is closer to 16 so it is bigger than 1/32

Oh wait, I do have a 3/32. And 1/16 is the smallest one, the rest of these, like 1/8, are gigantic and way too big for the screws.

try the 1/16 then. you have nothing slightly bigger than 1/16? be careful. if you drill too much you might shatter the shaft again and not be able to use it.

The top two are 3/32, the bottom one is 1/16, I have the screw adjacent to them for reference.
