Did you miss the scene where he was heading towards the US to blow it up?
In the third act the Red Skull has some bombs with city names on them. I don't ever recall anything being said about blowing up, specifically America. I mean, I don't remember any master plan, so for all I know those canisters contained doves.
I did leave the theater for a minute to take a leak, and when I came back I asked my wife "what's with the bombs?", and she gave me a shoulder shrug.

I didn't except the Red Skull to be a James Bond villain and it made sense to have the POV of the American side more so than the Hydra side. I thought the glowing cube and the power that it showcased was good enough to show the Red Skull was up to no good.

It's the "Cosmic Cube" and plan on seeing more of it next May Not sure if we'll see Thanos or not though. Hopefully we will as the Infinity Gauntlet has been shown at Comic Con, but ya never know.
Machete (2010) – I finally got around to seeing this and thoroughly loved just about everything about it. The cast was excellent, the gore was creative (the intestines scene at the hospital is great), and the directing was exactly what it needed to be. This is probably my favorite thing to come out of the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse project, as I think this bests both Death Proof and Planet Terror. Any complaints are minor (the ending scenes could have been better, the music was so-so), and this one comes recommended.
Grade: 4/5
Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981) – I completed the original Omen trilogy, and this film was certainly weaker than the other two – though still not horrible. Sam Neil obviously has a lot of fun with his role, some of the death scenes are interesting, and the amazing score is back. The plot is much weaker than the first two films, the ending is a total mess, and the casting is not near as good as the very solid first two films. As a trilogy, though, I feel it still holds up pretty well in the horror pantheon. I do plan to watch the 2006 remake of the first film sometime soon…
Grade: 2.5/5
The Thing (1981) – Hot on the heels of watching The Thing From Another World, I sat down for the first time in at least a decade (maybe two?) to watch John Carpenter’s The Thing. The film is actually better than I remember it being, and it is certainly one of Carpenter’s best (I can think of only 2-3 that might be better). The monster effects work still looks great, the setting is believable, and the direction creates atmosphere and tension. The sparse soundtrack (a hallmark of Carpenter films) is perfect, and the film is perfectly paced. It is a very different film than the 1951 classic, and both are worth seeing – but this one is better.
Grade: 4/5
Edit, just found out there is a made-for-TV Omen IV. Anyone seen it?
I've heard mixed reviews, but most of them positive.
COWBOYS AND ALIENS tonight. I'm unfamiliar with everything except for the title, so I look forward to seeing a movie with a premise I have no clue about.

I'm excited for that one. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it.

And I can't wait to see a movie where I don't know the entire back story so I'm not so bitchy when I write a review. It's difficult to judge a movie when you've grown up with a character and have expectations that a $10 movie ticket will live up to a $1.25 comic you bought in the 90's, but I have high standards. C&A looks like it could go either way, but DISTRICT 9 set the bar really high for an alien based movie (BATTLESHIP, yes based on a board game, sure will be interesting).
