I can't believe Nintendo expected to get away with selling 4 handhelds (and within a year 2 consoles) without some sort of repercussion. Average consumers don't really care about the 3DS because there is no killer app for the system yet (that should be fixed soon with the slew of 1st party games coming out), and the batteries in these systems are weak. Anyone that wants a great gaming experience on the cheap can get one of the 3 DS models still on sale, and people who want to play the newest games are smart enough to wait for an inevitable refresh. Everyone on this board expects there to be a 3DS lite, 3DSi, and 3DSixl, because Nintendo flooded the market.

With 3D TVs I have to put glasses on top of my glasses. With the 3DS, I have to keep it perfectly still while playing to not lose the effect. Promising technology.

I spent a lot of money buying the Japanese 3DS right when it came out. I even had to pay extra import mark up fees on top of it. I was really excited for glasses free 3D, and Gamecube quality graphics on a portable Nintendo system.

Unfortunately, there just aren't that many really good 3DS games, even now. Almost every game is a port of something we've seen before.

The 3D effect itself went from being mind blowing, to cool, to an annoyance. The last few times I've used my 3DS, I actually had 3D completely off. It just doesn't work well enough a lot of the time. Plus, if you ever need to use motion controls, you are basically forced to turn off the 3D. I think I would prefer if the game didn't even do 3D. That way, the games could look twice as good, and have higher frame rates. Supporting 3D means sacrificing the graphics.

The battery life fucking sucks. The 3DS barely qualifies as a portable since it dies on you anytime you use it. Even sleep mode drains the battery way faster than it should. There have been times when it says I have half battery power remaining, but it will die after only 8 hours of sleep mode. That's pretty bad.

The stylus placement is extremely horrible. I almost never use it because it's not worth the trouble getting it out. The D-pad is also positioned in a really bad place, and you can't really use it comfortably.

Having to walk around with your 3DS in sleep mode, just to get coins is a fucking stupid idea. You can only get 10 coins a day, which means you have to walk around with your 3DS all the time. I know that was their whole idea, but I don't like it.

I recently got a DSi, and I've actually been playing that a lot more than my 3DS. Ouendan 2 is fucking excellent. I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a long time. The DSi is so nice too! I love everything about it. It just feels like a much better system than the 3DS. The screens are bigger, the stylus is in a great spot, the battery doesn't die right away, the d-pad is positioned right. It's an amazing system.

I actually just ordered a DSi LL last night. I'm probably gonna take a break from 3DS until they release a better system and some good games. 3DS LL next year is my prediction.

Sorry for the long post.
tl;dr = DS > 3DS

Haha, yeah.

This is so hilarious. Great job on the name choice Nintendo. Should have brought back the Game Boy title so average consumers would know this is actually a huge upgrade from the DS, but as others are saying here and there, I'm sure a lot of people think it's just another revision of the normal DS. That and once again I laugh at the failure of another 3D gimmick.

Pure gold, but I'll still wait to get one. I wonder if they'll knock down normal DS's now, I still want to get an XL sometime.

$170 for finicky 3D, poor battery life, and as others have mentioned, the inevitable improved redesign come 2012.

I had the opportunity to play some Oot 3D, and I just couldn't believe how steady you need to hold the freaking thing to prevent distortion. I felt like I needed wrist straps for stabilization.

Reading about the epic 3D experience in this thread cracks me up.

You know, my original 3ds plan was to wait until the release of Luigi's Mansion 2 in the very, very slim hope that they might release some kind of special edition version of the system with it (you know, maybe a green one with an "L" on it or something. You know how Nintendo is).

After considering this price drop, that plan hasn't changed.

So since a special edition probably has a snowball's chance in hell of actually happening, what it boils down to either way is this:

I'll buy a 3ds when Luigi's Mansion 2 comes out.

And really, that should be plenty of time for them release the first, and possibly even second, hardware revision.

I wouldn't be surprised if nintendo doesn't make a 3ds revision in the next few years. After the price drop, nintendo will lose money on every 3ds system sold, it wouldn't make business sense to spend millions more on developing a newer product. Perhaps they update the current 3ds, with a larger battery and thats it.

And maybe they make it region-free too :P

Nintendo purposely made the 3DS shitty in order to make us buy next year's model. It will have better battery life, bigger screens, better d pad placement, better stylus placement, louder sound volume, and a better 3D viewing angle (so the 3D actually works).

Gameboy 3D would have been a much better name. No room for confusion there. Plus, I've always liked the Gameboy name better than DS.
