North Korea wants to import Cambodian rice to try to ease food shortages and had offered to sell agricultural machinery to Cambodia, such as tractors, at cheaper prices than Western countries and wanted to provide expertise in developing mines

A North Korean delegation led by Deputy Trade Minister Ri Myong-san visited Cambodia this week and the country is keen to import rice as soon as possible

Cambodia is the world's 15th biggest producer of rice and has set a target of exporting 1 million tonnes of the grain within the next four years.

North Korea is one of the world's poorest countries and it rarely produces enough food to feed its 24 million people, often as a result of bad weather affecting harvests

hahah, actually the idea is not bad, i mean the north doesnt have good soil while cambodia does, thus they can just focus on making farming machinese and sell it cheaper than Westerners and Chinese companies.

Thus its a win win situation for the 2 countries.

Um. When have you ever seen a communist country produce export-quality goods, let alone North Korea, which is like the special needs kid of that group?

Sounds like Cambodia would be better off selling its rice for cold hard currency, and using said currency to buy farm equipment from another country.

Cambodia and North Korea had a long history of good relations. Former king Norodom Sihanouk maintained a close personal relationship with North Korean leader Kim Il-Sung and often travelled to North Korea for stays at a palace in the capital, Pyongyang





Actually they havent figure out how the north will pay for the rice, but Cambodia have said that they will take whatever North Korea can offers. And also its not that Cambodia is lacking farming equiptment because Chinese have giving them way more than enough, but i guess just to get more afforable ones for the lower income farmers.

I remember watching a documentary on North korea and one of the tractors was sporting a small European Union logo. God knows how that ended up there. Probably just another "gift" from outsiders in awe of Kim Jong-Il*

Seriously though, how long is it going to have to take before they swallow their pride, admit they're crap, give up and join the South?
