I can't decide if it was as bad as I thought it was going to be... or worse.

Out of curiosity, do you guys ever run any meets in Houston? Not that Austin and Houston are super far apart, but...
I ask because there's a 50/50 chance that I'll be out in Houston for Labor Day weekend. I know that's still a month off, but I figured I'd mention it at least.

I think the Houston guys have attempted a couple of meet ups, but no one showed.CFFJR wrote:Out of curiosity, do you guys ever run any meets in Houston? Not that Austin and Houston are super far apart, but...

It does take about 3 hours to get to Austin from Houston if you plan on making the trip. Let use know in advance and we might be able to set up a get together at a local venue. I am currently waiting on a release date for Guardian Heroes HD before setting a date for that meet.

Cool. I'm game to try and do something. We've talked about having a Houston meet, but haven't talked about it enough to get one going.CFFJR wrote:Out of curiosity, do you guys ever run any meets in Houston? Not that Austin and Houston are super far apart, but...

If you're going to the Houston area, I recommend you check out a "Pacman Friday." Pacman Fridays occur every first and last Friday night of the month at Joystix Amusements in downtown Houston near Minute Maid Stadium. With the exception of these two nights, Joystix Amusements is normally an arcade machine showroom and dealership. However, on Pacman Fridays, Joystix opens its doors from 9pm to 2am to the general public for $15 admission (cash only). On these Pacman Fridays, all 200+ of their arcade machines are set to free play. In other words, this is 5 hours of unlimited arcade play. They have stand up arcade machines, pinball machines, shooting games, driving games, and so forth. Just check their inventory links under the different categories. There's a really nice variety here, plus some newer machines that we don't have at Austin arcades. Since you'll be in Houston for Labor Day weekend, you'll be able to catch that first Friday of the month. If you would like to know more about Pacman Fridays, let me know and I will elaborate. I've been there twice; once in 2010 and once a month ago.CFFJR wrote:Sounds good guys, thanks.I'll keep you posted when I find out more about the trip.
A second retro gaming related recommendation I have for the Houston area is visiting Player 1 Video Games in Friendswood, TX, which is southeast of Houston, near the general area of the Houston Space Center. Player 1 is a relatively small store, about the size of a small Gamestop. However, they carry primarily retro games with some interesting flourishes in their inventory like Neo Geo games, import Dreamcast games, and import Saturn games. When my friend and I went there, we agreed it was a small store but very dense with good merchandise.

I keep forgetting about Pacman Friday and I haven't made it to Player 1 as it is opposite me.Redline9 wrote:If you're going to the Houston area, I recommend you check out a "Pacman Friday."

Hey guys, Game Over Round Rock is doing the Final Fantasy day today. I have work until 8:30pm so I won't be able to take part in the tournaments like I wanted to. I am going to drop by around 9 for the tail end of the event. They should be showing Advent Children in the parking lot by then. Maybe I can catch the last bit of the Final Fantasy VII speed run.

Grrr, I completely forgot about it. Ah well, next time.
