Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Hahaha, I had actually forgot about that option at the time . Maybe I should call back haha.

Out of curiosity, how much is the gift card they usually give away in situations like this ?

when I had a similar run-in with KMart, it was over a $15 discrepancy. I was sent a $20 gift card after complaining.

I haven't had time (yet) to read the rest of the thread, but let me tell yous... I HATE Gamestop.

Short list why:
- They only stock popular current gen games (can't really fault them for this, but it is annoying).
- Prices are generally pretty bad. Games that have dropped down to $19.99 on Amazon and other places still cost about $40 at GameStop.
- "New" games have no shrink wrap and are plastered with stickers RIGHT ON THE PLASTIC CASE. Games in paper/cardboard cases (most PC games) get mutilated on the shelves.
- Used games tend to be in horrific condition. Once I went in and bought about 15 cheap used PS2 games. Checked the condition when I got home, about 7 of them were scratched into oblivion. Had to pay $20 at another store to get them resurfaced, thus negating any "deal" I got at GameStop. Another time I bought a used GameCube: the console didn't work and even the controller was broken. Okay, maybe they don't have time to test every used console that comes in, but the busted joystick was visible to the naked eye.
- They are waaaay to pushy with the rewards card BS. The card is 14 bucks and doesn't really do much as far as I can tell. I don't want a Game Informer subscription either. If I wanted to listen to industry lackeys heap praise over every awful CGI cutscene-fest I would just visit IGN. Oh yeah, and stop asking me if I want to reserve whatever crappy army man shooter comes out next month.

Story from the last time I shopped there:
A guy buying used PS2 and PSP games asked if he could see the condition of the discs before he paid. When he pointed out how shizzy they looked, the clerk tried to tell him they "weren't that bad" and that she was "sure they would still work." When the customer commented on an especially mutilated PSP disc, the clerk tried to claim all the scratches were on the plastic, not the actual UMD. The guy decided not to buy anything (for good reason) and walked out. At this, the clerk slammed down all the game cases she was holding and screamed "Never sell anything to that man again!" Totally ridiculous and immature, these people should realize that no one wants to buy games that are destoyed beyond recognition.

I had a strange encounter at gamestop on saturday.

I bought Battlefield Bad Company and when i got home i realized they never put the game in the case.

I remember seeing him take it out of the bin, but i guess i lost sight of it when he tried to get me to pre order battlefield 3.

They gave me the game when i took it back so no real problem, but wow. That was strange.

Other than the ripped price tag (which, who cares) I don't see the issue. Maybe I just can't see it because that particular photo is bad. Enlighten me.

Yanno, if you hang around the counter at Gamestop you'll score yourself some bargains. Say next time you see a guy bringing in a console for cash, they give him the insulting
offer they're versed to do and the guy accepts for whatever reason, just for the guaranteed cash. Well, instead of sighing and lamenting the ridiculousness of people's
desperation, interject in the transaction before anything is scanned, offer him something reasonable, above Gamestop's non-existent one and boom! you can walk away with cheap, cool stuff.

I know a guy who did this, also stood near the counter selling his used stuff when people
came asking what the store was charging for them, then immediately undercutting the
shop's price for a handy profit. Imagine he got banned eventually. Fucking chuckles were had regardless.

Yeah, do that if you want to get kicked out. They have the right to refuse service to anyone, and if I owned the place I certainly wouldn't want you on my property trying to undersell me, in the place I pay rent for to do my business. If you were smart, though, you'd simply ask him to step away from the counter then make him an offer in private.

The lack of shrink wrap and the fact that GS games are "gutted" is the issue. There should never be a single sticker on the actual packaging of a new game like that, let alone three.
