The PSP has not retired, but it has entered end-of-life in every territory but Japan. I guess piracy isn't affecting Japan as much? (As that's the reason given for the lack of support here..)

Here's the North American retail release list from now until the end of the year:

08/30 Double Rivals Attack Pack!
08/30 Double Super Hero Pack!
08/30 Madden NFL 12
09/20 Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 - Innocent Sin
09/27 FIFA Soccer 12
10/04 NBA 2K12
10/11 Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact
10/25 Invizimals: Shadow Zone
11/01 LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7
11/15 Pro Evolution Soccer 2012

The European list is even smaller. Come on, even Nintendo's Virtual Console release schedule is bigger. (Ok, ok, maybe not.)

That's pathetic. Not a single game I'm interested in on that entire list.

I've said it before, and I'm very serious about my theory: PSP was huge in Japan because of porn. They sell UMD porn there. Lots of it. And hey, did you know our new porNable system plays games, too? Good ones!

It's like VHS in the US in the 80's. Note to companies -- if you want yr new format to stick around, make it with pr0n.

BetaMax had porn, you know.

I think yr missing my point. I'm just saying that I think the UMD format would have done better in the US had the porndustry been behind it.

I really doubt that would have made a very big difference. It's not socially acceptable to walk around in public watching porn, or watching it on the train next to other people. I don't know if this is ok is Japan, but it isn't here. People would have to watch the porn at home, which would defeat the purpose of portability.

I don't think anything can save the PSP unless they tried one last harrah in marketing. What would be nice if they made some sort of tremendous come back and decided to start translating and importing games over here from japan and just saying they are "new games" even if they're 3-4 years back. In a sense, just start throwing a mess load of games like the DS did.
