Has the PSP retired yet?

As I went to Best Buy, there hasn't been any new PSP games and I have read a while back that the UMDs have also went into retirement. So the question is, has the actual PSP and the games that were for it actually went into retirement?

I remember those UMD movies that came out for it when I was looking for games, I think that was absolutely the worst idea I've seen was the PSP trying to sell more PSP movies for the lack of games that were for it and there were times I would get confused what was a movie and what was a game because they were all on the same rack at Best Buy.

i still see my local target restock the PSP bundle. there was two new in stock last week, but their gone now.

No, I think there's still a couple of PSP games left to come, but that's it. The PSP in 2011 = PS2 in 2008. PSP isn't going to live 10 years like Playstations are supposed to, unless they just keep re-printing the old games over and over until 2014.

I've had my PSP since 2005 which was around the same time it came out. Yeah that's a rotten shame in my case because the PSP is my overall favorite system as I play it more than than all of the other systems including the new ones. PSP 1000 for the win

actually 2011 has been a great year for PSP if you look at the release schedule. It's certainly losing its pulse in the US, but Japan is going to keep it going pretty strong in the next year I'd imagine as well. If not longer. PLUS I have a feeling that as Sony stops supporting it (and stops FW updates) then the homebrew scene will only get bigger.

Remember, an opened PSP is not just for pirates. There are truly amazing homebrew releases that equate to free original games, many the same quality as a PSN release. For instance, the excellent port of Cave Story.

Even if the PSP is issued a death certificate, I think it will be a very long time before it takes its last breath. I truly think of it as the portable Dreamcast, if you see what I mean.

One of the games that I got for it that I appreciate that wasn't loved was Dungeons & Dragons Tactics. The game could have used more work but I think it was an excellent game for a portable system like the PSP.

Yeah I know what you mean, I think they finally brewed the PSP-3000 model the one that was considered "unhackable" though there is a lot more you have to go through with it unlike the PSP 1000 system.

I know that the PSP-Go died and went to hades, I bought one for my Grandfather as he was going to do the foolish choice of buying a Sony Walkmen, it was extremely difficult to figure out and the memory was limited, so I bought him the Go and he finally thanked me after he realized all its beauty compared to that ugly Walkmen.

In the US it's mostly dead from a retail standpoint, which really saddens me. I really want to see Valkyria Chronicles III localized but it looks like that isn't in the cards. The machine flopped due to various factors in the US but still goes strong in Japan which means there are a lot of good games being released that we won't get to see.

Atlus is still supporting it, with Persona 2 planned. Square still has stuff planned. I can't imagine Xseed abandoning it too soon either.

Yeah, the smaller niche companies can still release stuff on it and not worry too much, as they tend to cater to people who buy their games to support the companies localizing more. Whereas Sega sees it as going for a broad market, so when it doesn't do well outside a niche they get worried.

Persona 2 is coming out on the PSP in the fall; as far as I'm concerned, that is definitely a sign of life.
