Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I last saw The Bourne Supremacy last night. I enjoyed it, although it had some flaws. Namely, I was always a little confused as to what Bourne's motivation was throughout the movie. I understood what the bad guy's objective was, but not Bourne's. This was the first time I watched a movie on Blu-ray, and I must say, it is better than DVD. Even on my SD TV, I noticed a picture improvement.

Just wait until you're actually watching them on an hdtv!BoringSupreez wrote:I last saw The Bourne Supremacy last night. I enjoyed it, although it had some flaws. Don't listen to people who try and tell you that old movies don't benefit from HD. They're full of shit. Some of the best looking blu rays I own are actually older films.

Fear Dot Net was on over the weekend. I was tempted, but skipped it.

It's horrendous and consider this, I loved My Soul To Take so you can imagine how abysmal Fear Dot Net is.noiseredux wrote:Fear Dot Net was on over the weekend. I was tempted, but skipped it.

I loved My Soul To Take, too. I don't even see why you'd think of that as a bad movie that you're ashamed to love. Surely you've seen way worse? You've seen Troll 2, right? If you haven't then you're wasting your time doing anything else, man.KillerJuan77 wrote:It's horrendous and consider this, I loved My Soul To Take so you can imagine how abysmal Fear Dot Net is.noiseredux wrote:Fear Dot Net was on over the weekend. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) – As my first foray through the Potter films continues, I discovered that this third film is easily my favorite so far. The darker tone, the better acting, and the more complex and interesting plot made this one leaps and bounds above Chamber of Secrets. It doesn’t have the feeling of awe and discovery that the first one conveyed, but it more than makes up for it with better directing and a more compelling narrative.
Grade: 4/5
The Silence of the Lambs (1991) – I have seen this film so many times that it is hard to place an objective review on it anymore. It is probably still the best performance to date from Hopkins or Foster, it is the best of the Lecter films by far, and it is expertly paced and directed by Demme – undoubtedly his best work as well. In the 20 years since the film came out there have been a myriad of similar films and TV shows with serial-killer plots, gruesome autopsies, sexual fetishes, and all the other elements that made this stand out so much upon release. Time has diminished its star some, but when considered in the context of its release, it is still an all-time great.
Grade: 5/5
The Thing from Another World (1951) – I have of course seen Carpenter’s The Thing (many years ago), and wanted to rewatch it before the remake comes out later this year. I had never seen the original, though, so I thought I’d start with that. The film is really quite gripping, even today, and like many older horror films it does an excellent job of keeping your attention right up until the moment when the monster appears and the aged effects become distracting. I quite liked the scene on the Ice, the acting jobs by the actors who played the head scientist and the reporter, and the plot itself is still quite intriguing. Worth a look for genre fans.
Grade: 3/5
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (2009) – As a big Gilliam fan, I really felt this movie was a bit of a let down. Too much of it seemed to be effects work for the sake of effects work, and the story itself was quite dull and drawn out. The casting was perfect (any movie with Waits as the devil gets at least a half point bump), the directing was adequate (though poor for Gilliam), and the acting by Ledger, Plummer, and the rest was certainly commendable given what they had to work with.

I've seen Troll 2, it's fun to watch and yeah, My Soul To Take wasn't bad but most people think it's brokennoiseredux wrote:I loved My Soul To Take, too. Troll 2, check. Good.
Have you seen Slugs? Same director as Pieces (which I'd hope you've seen as well). Slugs is even better in my opinion.
And how about Humanoids From The Deep? Certainly appropriate for the recent heatwave.

I LOVED PIECES, one of the best slasher flicks I've ever seen. And yes I've seen Slugs, it was pretty entertaining and some of the death scenes are incredibly disgusting.noiseredux wrote:Troll 2, check. Good.

I just updated my master list of movie reviews I've written in this thread since May of 2009 (link in signature). There are almost 200 of them now
I also asterisked all the 4.5/5 and 5/5 reviews, for anyone who is perusing it to find something to watch.
