I already got a response from them about the shipping mishap, and he's offering a spare hdcombo shell + pcb to me as a refund for the overcharge on shipping. This means I can repair my first hdcombo, and install it in my second ps2 slim. I'll have two HDD capable ps2 slims, a 500GB and 80GB.
how much for the 80gb set minus the ps2? if you want to sell...

Keep in mind that its not modded, which means it has no way to access HDLoader without my swap magic discs, which I'm not willing to part with. I dont think I have the skills required to install a real mod chip. I was just going to keep it for myself. Also remember this is the ps2 with the motherboard that rejected my first HDCombo installation. So for all I know it could be incompatible with it. I may just sell the hdcombo set by itself for like 55, compared to mod-chip's $70. Or just keep it for spare parts.

You could probably soft mod and use the Independence exploit... That way you can run HDLoader right off the mem card using a PSX game as the boot disc.
Atari 2600 (AV mod), NES, SNES (region switch for PAL), Virtual Boy, Gamecube, Wii (D2CKey), PSX (Stealth V), PS2 (independence exploit w/ 160 GB HDD), Goldstar 3DO, Philips CD-i, Dreamcast, Saturn (racketboy's chip), Sega Genesis 2 + CD2 + 32X + Power Base Converter, Game Gear.

It's fairly simple to do. The most you would need is to temporarily borrow a copy of HDLoader or HDAdvance or have someone with the independence exploit straight up copy the file off the mem card for you (you'd have to use the same PSX game they used since that SLUS code would be the one being used for the exploit).

I've done it for people on here. I copied the file over to a mem card and just told them to get the game I use which is Blaster Master: Blasting Again. Cheap game, $5 shipped or so off ebay.

diehllane, stop getting vlame's hopes up. Slims cant be exploited. And vlame, no trust me, you dont want the retail HDLoader. Its very outdated compared to the latest unofficial version, and works with about half as many games. It really sucks.

Even with HDCombo having the hard drive it can't be exploited?

Not by the means of the independence exploit, aka the method where a ps1 game triggers a specific file placed on the memory card, no. Sony sealed that method off with the slims. It's not possible anymore. Just about any scene forum will tell you so. Its the 2nd most asked question behind "Can I play PS1 isos off the hard drive?"

I love my Swap Magic discs because if you have a usb thumb drive inserted, and a file at SWAPMAGIC/SWAPMAGIC.ELF, it autoboots it before even going to the swap magic screen. All I do is power on, wait through about 8 seconds of black screen, and I'm at HDLoader. I'm considering doing a video for youtube, but I dont know if thats such a safe idea. I'd hate to lose my account.

Oh I see. Glad I never got a slim. My big old fat PS2 is nice. I love the ability to have an internal HDD.
Playing PS1 Isos off a HDD wouldn't be important to me. If it was, I'd just get a PS3. I have a chipped PSX for that.

I'm surprised they blocked the independence exploit though. I figured leaving out the ability to have an internal hard drive would've been enough for Sony. I didn't expect them to change something else to block it, too.
