I just picked up Ocarina of Time for 3ds, yet no 3ds yet. Just wanted to get in on the soundtrack deal before it was gone. I don't know how long that will take, but I also don't know when I'll bite the bullet on a 3DS. I did sit and look at the manual for awhile, thinking I can't be the only one to do this.
I also almost did it on Metal Gear Solid 2 ps2 back in the day. I remember seeing it at fry's a week or so after it came out, and ran through all the scenarios where I could play it at this or that persons house. Didn't do it though. I actually ignored the ps2 somehow all the way till I bought a ps3, then started playing them on that. Weird thing to do for a console with THAT many games.
Oh, I also remember finding some good deals on AES/MVS games, before I had either. Some of those games don't get deals all that often, so gotta snatch them up while you can!
Have you ever bought games for consoles you don't own?

Re: Have you ever bought games for consoles you don't own?
I have purchased a few games without owning the console:
1) I found Valis 3 for the TG-16 at a thrift store and bought it in the hopes that it was a rare and/or valuable game. To my surprise it was a decent find as I bought it for $2 and its worth about $20-25.
2) I'm a big fan of the atelier games and purchased atelier rorona with no intention of buying a PS3 in the near future. I did, however, end up purchasing a PS3.
3) I have also bought a few mystery boxes that included games for systems I didn't own like 32X, TG-16, Commodore and Atari 5200.

You're a lot more likely to see an actual SMS on Craigslist than a Power Base Converter. PBC's are kinda rare, I think. An actual SMS would be cheaper anyway.

I bought PC Engine games for about a year before I found the right deal on a system. Man that was tough looking at all those sexy games and I couldn't play them but it was worth it. Plus then I didnt go nuts after I bought the system cause I had stuff to play for a while till I found out what I liked

I've never owned a GB, GBC or GBA but I saw this in a local thrift store for 1 dollar.
No way I could pass up a still sealed decade old GBC game, no matter how Disney it is.....

I've got quite a few games that i don't own the system for. I usually do this when I go to a store and see a good deal on the games, and I will eventually get the systems to play them on. For example, I got a bunch of Sega 32x/CD games, such as Doom, Star Wars Arcade, and Terminator CD, for 99 cents each.

Yes. Definitely yes.
Catch is that I intend to get these systems in the future or sell the games off.
For example, I found some CIB SMS games at goodwill for $2.50 each, bought 7. Found 3 coleco games for .98 at half price books, 3 5200 games at a flea market for under 2 bucks a pop, and I've been buying Wii games when I see them on clearance. Eventually I'll own all those systems, and I knew I'd kick myself if I didn't take advantage of the deals when I do purchase those systems.

I am sad there are only two options.
I buy games first, consoles later. You may see this as dyslexia, but I see it as consoles are meant to be bought to play games; buying a bulky console is pointless if you don't already have something to play with first.

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Your answer falls under "Yes". That is exactly what I wanted to know. I was planning on buying some games while the prices are good, so when I get the consoles they aren't doorstops for a couple of weeks.
