I'd offer you the XB I picked up at a yard sale, but I have no way to test it.

I don't know if you live in a small town or something where things are different. But I live in California. If someone left a package at my doorstep, it would get stolen. And I would be pissed at the mailman for doing it because that's just an invitation for it to be stolen. If there is no package box at the residence and no one is home. There are slips I've seen that you can put in the regular mailbox with the mail that tells them a package is held for them at the post office.weaponepsilon wrote: On a side note, I delivered a package a month ago and left it on there doorstep. I got a screaming lady phonecall because she hadn't received it even though it was scanned delivered. I know I left it there. A few days later some thieves were busted in the area. Hint: Stealing mail = federal crime.
BTW, 1000th post, whoo hoo!!!

Re: USPS lost my XBOX (suggestions needed)
Where I live, I always get packages left by my door (if they're too big for the mailbox). The only time I get the slip is when I have to sign for it (which is usually only when I order something from outside the country). I've never had a package stolen from the doorstep, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. The area I do live in has lots of drug problems, and drug addiction = crime. Like the heroin addicts that broke into my car, along with 50 other cars in my neighborhood alone. Or the pain killer addict that murdered 4 people in a pharmacy on Fathers Day, what was called the worst homicide in the county's history.

Yes and no. I live in the Minneapolis St. Paul Area. The station's policy varies from office to office. Some places you never want to leave a package for a good reason. Other times it's hard to ignore the instruction "CARRIER: Leave if no response" Our parcel pickup case would be jammed full if we brought every single one back. What most people dont understand is that the pure volume of mail we handle daily is huge even though the mail volumes have been down lately. I personally handle 3000 to 5000 pieces of mail daily. Plus factor in about 100 or so parcels of various sizes for my individual route.BurningDoom wrote:

One customer on a route I've been working gets about 12-25 parcels daily from the USPS alone. Typically, I meet the UPS guy and the FedEx guys about the same time and they're also dumping loads to the house. The customer general tells everyone to either leave them in the garage or place them on the porch. Those peach slips (PS 3849's) I leave for a lot of things like large photos mailers that say "DO NOT BEND"...

...truth be told I did not know that.weaponepsilon wrote:Not all apartments have an office...AppleQueso wrote:nice advantage to living at an apartment: big packages are left safely in the main office
Every apartment I've ever lived in or even visited had a main office.

Well that would make sense. I don't know why they don't just do that where I live.AppleQueso wrote:nice advantage to living at an apartment: big packages are left safely in the main office

Re: USPS lost my XBOX (suggestions needed)
I deliver to 6 apartment buildings and not one of them has an on site office. Everytime I get a parcel for that apartment, I seldom leave the office with it. I fill out a peach slip and date it for that day and leave the package in the case.
