no they didn't. The original comics were bloody man. It was the cartoon series that changed that. There's really 2 sides of the Turtles. The original dark version (as seen in the first movie, which was basically a couple of the original comics put to film) and the sanitized version (seen most everywhere else).flamepanther wrote: Eastman and Laird always tried to steer clear of gratuitous gore and violence

Re: Freddy Krueger coming to Mortal Kombat!!!
I've read the comics. Note the use of the word "gratuitous". There is certainly some blood here and there, but most of the action that would otherwise be gory happens either slightly out of view (pre-teen Raph smashing people's faces in with tonfa), or in silhouette (cutting Shredder's head off). Wherever possible, the more extreme violence was implied rather than shown. Peter Laird said himself in one of the old "letters" pages that this was a rule he and Kevin deliberately set for themselves.noiseredux wrote:no they didn't. The original comics were bloody man. EDIT:
This is an excerpt from Peter Laird responding to an offended parent's complaint of language and violence in TMNT, as printed in issue 15 of the original series:

Typically, he's right. "Gross or graphic" is something TMNT stays away from but MK relies on for its notoriety and popularity. Not a great fit.

alright fine. It's not gratuitous. I'm just saying the shit was dark.
HEART. I loved those early comics. But whatever. I love all the TMNT stuff. I'm a sucker for it.

I think they should get the rights to use characters from Ninja Assassin and Riki-Oh.

I'm actually an even bigger fan of the 2nd one, Blood Wings. That shit's amazing. The 3rd and 4th are pretty bad though.
