But if they're really sure about that IP not making money, it might be a good time to sell it off.dsheinem wrote:Remember, they canceled Mega Man Universe too. Obviously this is not the time to pour money and resources into the MM IP.

Then when is? They've recently released Mega Man 9 and 10, and are starting to get new people into the series. If there is a time to do it, it's now.dsheinem wrote: Remember, they canceled Mega Man Universe too. Obviously this is not the time to pour money and resources into the MM IP.

I imagine that the production costs for MM9 and MM10 were pretty low. I don't expect that's the case with more full-fledged 3D or MMO-type titles.YoshiEgg25 wrote:Then when is? That's right. 5 guys in a garage with a Windows 95 can make a quality 2D game if you give them a year. Takes quite a bit more effort and money to make a quality 3D game.dsheinem wrote:I imagine that the production costs for MM9 and MM10 were pretty low. Re: Megaman legends 3 Cancelled
This is pretty moot considering Capcom was hailing up and down this "dev room" idea for this entire project that they didn't even put into effect. As people have specifically said in this thread some of us didn't even realize that website existed until now. For some reason I thought they released that $2 tech demo but I heard from a friend they never did, so way to go on their part on "getting the fans involved". They didn't even try.dsheinem wrote:When "the fans" don't significantly boost the bottom line and shareholders get upset, it is a smart move. It has happened time and again to other publishers. Capcom is in the business of making money and have succeeded in doing just that for a long time. They didn't do it by releasing games that only fans would buy.Xeogred wrote:The Asura’s Wrath devs? I think they know what they're doing, because that game looks like what the next Devil May Cry SHOULD be.
Anyways I'm sure this is a done deal though and it's over. I don't agree with dsheinem at all about the "being business smart mentality" though, but I'd be lying to myself if I didn't believe that's what modern gaming and this entire generation has been about. Fuck the fans and play it safe to sum it up.
Remember, they canceled Mega Man Universe too. Obviously this is not the time to pour money and resources into the MM IP.
No offense to you and others, but I could give two shits about business type arguments when it comes to this kind of stuff. That's a lazy argument that anyone can bring up for anything. So I would probably suck ass at managing a business myself? Good thing I have no interest in ever doing so or ever going into marketing.
Re: Megaman legends 3 Cancelled
The last two Megaman games released earned shit tons of money. Universe and Legends 3 were both cancelled before the fans got any chance to demonstrate financial commitment.dsheinem wrote: Remember, they canceled Mega Man Universe too. Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Besides any successful business knows it has to take risks if it wants to survive. Otherwise it gets left behind and closed down a few years later than it would have if it had risked too much without good results.
Then again I think that perfectly describes Japanese business culture these days, and why the country is being left behind.
Though honestly did any people really feel sad about Megaman Universe getting canceled? It barely looked playable. (ok obviously a lot of hardcore megaman fans felt sad, but I'm wondering if that cancellation gathered even 1/10th of the fan backslash this one did)

As a hardcore MegaMan fan I felt a little sad, but mostly relieved. Its cancellation means I still don't need to buy a 360.ZeroAX wrote:Though honestly did any people really feel sad about Megaman Universe getting canceled? It barely looked playable. Re: Megaman legends 3 Cancelled
Well, the group has lost steam. Hopefully the gaming media reporting on it on Monday will help rejuvenate it. Otherwise I think capcom was right to cancel it. If we can't get 100.000 people to sigh a petition, how many sales would we have gotten? 5.000? (though honestly I'd have bought the game without owning a 3DS)

Re: Megaman legends 3 Cancelled
I don't exactly see the connection between possible sales and a post-cancellation petition. If anything, the sum of the whole response I have seen is proof positive that the game should NOT have been cancelled. Lots of games get cancelled - rarely do you see backlash like this. Check Capcom Unity. Check Capcom's facebook page. Check twitter. The fanbase is pretty fucking apparent. Capcom choked.ZeroAX wrote:Well, the group has lost steam.
