What RPGs have the most unique Battle Systems?

Post by racketboy »

Panzer Dragoon Saga and Grandia 2 come to my mind.
What others do you know of?

Parasite Eve comes to mind, corny as the overall package was. Arc the Lad - Twilight of the Spirits with it's pseudo-tactical thing.

The Valkyrie Profile games have a cool battle system I thought.

Star Ocean: The Second Story had a pretty neat system.

I'll second that one, quite original and visually appealing.

Grandia 2 was only the second RPG I had ever played, so at the time I thought the battle system was normal. After playing a lot more since then, Grandia 2's battle system is definitly unique and fun. I've been trying to find a copy of Grandia 3 at gamestop, but I have not come across a copy yet. How does the third one compare with the second?

Chrono Cross was a bit odd at first, but by the end I really liked it. Using the different elemental fields to your advantage made it much easier to win tough battles. Plus being able to custimize with different spells was nice. I also liked the fact that you could attack twice and cast a spell, you can take out three enemies with one character sometimes.
I love that game.

I also triple Valkyrie Profile and Second Star Ocean. Good stuff. I really like Tales of the Abyss' system as well. The battles were fun.

One I hated was Legend of the Dragoon. I got really far in that game but then didn't play it for a while and when i picked up again I couldn't even attack!!! It's soo frustrating i just sold it.

Grandia the first had, I think, a better version of the battle system that evolved to fit Grandia 2. But alas, Panzer Dragoon Saga has the most unique and compelling RPG combat scheme.

Dragoon was total garbage, aside from the end credit song. God I hated that game. My friend was like "But keep playing! I swear it gets better! Don't stop!" If it doesn't get better after 20 hours, then I've suffered enough.
