Just give them the SKU from the Radio Shack Web Page. They can pull from their distribution center and have it there in a few days, no shipping cost.

Parts Express perhaps? Common destination for folks building other A/V equipment at least.

Yeah, you can't use the search box on DigiKey. You have to go through the product index and then sort, which some times isn't much easier.

I'm assuming you want to mount the jacks on the consoles with a nut? I've only found one nut-mountable S-video jack on DigiKey, but I didn't like it. You can mount it to something with the thickness of paper, that's about it! I haven't used them yet, but the RCA jacks from DigiKey look like they'll work fine.
fvgazi wrote:I got my s-video + RCA jacks at MicroCenter. I just had to pry the end off of the s-video because it was really a "keystone" coupler and I took the male end off. I guess I could've left it, but it was easier to solder the wires separately and fit it inside my genesis.

S-Video

RCA Jacks
I was thinking about getting these kind. I don't know why I can't seem to find jacks that I can mount with a nut anywhere, but those look like they would do the trick.

They do the trick but only if you pry off the end and use the leads, otherwise they are about 2 inches long and will not fit for most console mods. The nice part is you can use the white plastic to help you size the drill bit you would need.

That plastic frame requires a larger Square hole, may not fit inside a tight area. The Radio Shack SKU I posted earlier has a nut, I think Frys may carry one too.

You can search the site for SVideo jacks too. If not in stock, the store clerk can have it pulled from the Distribution Center. Takes a couple of days, no shipping cost. :D

This RCA jack is SKU 274-346 at $4.19 for a four pack.

^ What I don't like about those is the nut holds the ground solder tab on which is kinda stupid. Unless I'm stupid and I'm not realizing how to properly mount it. I have a couple of those pretty much exact RCA jack on hand right now. I was thinking about taking one down to the hardware store and getting a sizing up the nut. I figure if I get a second nut for each of them it would work better as far as the ground tab goes.

I used a plug instead of a jack for a couple Genesis I added S-video to.

Might not look as nice in pictures as shining jacks mounted on the console, but it still looks professional since it's not a hack up (like ripping jacks off dead VCRs or DVD players) and more importantly, it gets the job done just as well.

I didn't even use the plastic. The jack is threaded and you can just screw it in. I just used the plastic piece to judge how large a bit I needed when I drilled.

You could bend the grounding tab up slightly before installing. Better yet, solder the wire before putting the nut on.

Great idea using the SVideo cable plug you made for the Genesis. Its actually better then a flush mount, easier to line up the fragile SVideo pins to.

Oh, okay. Good call using the plastic hole for a drill bit sizer.

I did find the ones at Radio Shack. I also bought a few PCB ones off of eBay. Not sure how I'm gonna get those to work, but they were only a couple bucks. Thanks all.

Does anyone have any idea about shielded hookup wire? Is this a thing? I keep reading about it in mods but I can't find any when searching for it on google.
