Original Xbox disc drive

I have been reading about how the original xbox can have either a good disc drive or a disc drive that fails easily. Is there any way to tell whether an oXbox has a good or bad drive? I'm kind of getting tired of mine dying in the middle of a game.

confused, your title is HARD drive but your message is DISC drive. about the disc drive, the best is the Samsung, although the O/C mechanism breaks easily, it is the best for reading DVD+, DVD- and CDR.

you can swap the drive with a pc drive if you don't want to read original games, but you need a molex power splitter.
