Day Two and the HD CRT turns on just fine. Just to be on the safe side, I'll turn it on only once per day. No point in pushing it, by powering back on while the PCB is hot. Maybe over cautious, but I'll do anything to keep this WEGA in service.

A few more pics. Eventually I'll get to the Guide, too much fun catching up playing games.

My HD CRT is still kicking, I am confident the two chip replacement are a reliable long term fix. Hopefully this HDTV will outlive me. If the chips do fail years from now, they are an easy replacement since I soldered in sockets. I'm still composing the Guide, meanwhile I received this PM from retrosportsgamer. Thought best to answer here to get information from other Neo Geo owners.

Hi - I'm hoping your expertise can help me. My Neo Geo has the standard LCD issue (mine just flickers on the right of the screen like you were distorting the signal just slightly - I have a 37" Panasonic Viera LCD I use for my retro gaming) and I was looking for a CRT and this one really caught my eye:

27" Sony Wega FD Trinitron CRT

I'm not worried about HD, but i'd like to use it for light gun retro support if possible.

Does this model support what i'm looking for? I loved all the input options on it. Thanks for your help.

What is the model number?

From the size description, l am pretty sure this is a non HD CRT. Lightguns work fine on any non HD CRT. The PS2 Guncon even has a unique capability of 480p support, but not on a HDTV. I am not familiar with the Neo Geo lightgun, but the era the console was before HDTVs came out. It should work as long as the you use a CRT is not a HD.

Does anyone have a Neo Geo Lightgun to confirm this?

Your Neo Geo console will look beautiful on a CRT.
No wide screen stretch or scaling, Niode says it best.

CRT doesn't have a native resolution so you don't get the same issue you get with LCDs. CRTs just display the content in the resolution it was intended to be viewed in. No up scaling required.

Thanks for posting my question. I don't have a lightgun was just looking for a good model to eliminate that refresh flickering. I've experienced this with my PC Engine Duo also - even in 4:3 mode.

Actually my question is - with these different aspect ratios, am I still going to run into slight flickering with my Neo Geo or Pc Duo like i do under 4:3 on a LCD?

Aspect Ratio 16:9 Enhanced, 4:3

It is a non HD with Composite, SVideo and Component input. I think the Component input is limited to 480i. You should not get the the dot crawl issues like the LCD. I think this TV a 4:3 screen, perfect for non wide screen retro consoles.
