Always happy to spread the pain around. God help you, my son.

so last night I was like "y'know what? I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna play X7 for like a good half hour before I hop in bed." I felt determined. I walked over to my shelf with conviction and pulled out the game case forcefully. I marched over to my PS3 and powered it on. As I opened the game case I caught a glance of the screen shots displayed on the back of the box. I slowly turned the PS3 off, put the game case back on the shelf, and went to bed.

I just played the first level and enjoyed it as much or more than most Mega Man games. What's the big problem?

If the first level of a game was the only benchmark by which to judge that games quality, every single Sonic the Hedgehog game ever made would rate a perfect score.

...keep playing.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I haven't even played X7 (and don't plan on it), but even comparing it to Sonic like that sounds overly harsh against Sonic.

X7 is 3D, enough said. Yeah it worked with the Legends games, but them jumping a series line of games from 2D to 3D was just stupid, like Final Fantasy 11 / 14 being MMO's. At least X8 went back to the pseudo 2D/3D thing, but overall was still very forgettable outside of Vile having a third appearance (though his redesign was lame). This Flake, is why I say "X5 and X6 aren't that bad", ie see X7/X8. But yeah, X-X4 blow the later games out the water.

Why did Kevin Flynn blare Journey so loud in his arcade? Was he trying to hear it from the grid?

I made it to the last level of MUSHA but I ran out of steam. It's a pretty tough level and the second mini-boss was a real bitch until I figured out a good strategy to use against it. The final boss actually reminds me of one of the final bosses from Thunder Force III. I'll probably finish it off later today.

Good for you. I died again on the level 4 boss in my last serious go. Which weapon do you find works best for you?

Definitely the explosives (orange power up). Since it's a spreadshot it's generally more practical (and safer) to use than the lightning in most every situation. If you manage to get it fully powered it pretty much prevents the enemies from even making it on screen in the first 5 levels.

The blue shield weapon seems like it might be a sleeper but I haven't bothered experimenting with it much since I find the explosives to be so powerful. It seems to destroy nearly any bullet type, but I can't justify using it over one of the projectile weapons unless the main ship weapon is powered up to at least three shots wide.
