Tetris Plus (PS1) or Tetris (PSN) ?

Post by noiseredux »

which version do I want --- and before you answer, understand this: I basically want to be able to play as close to the NES/GB versions as an option.

Tetris Plus contains a "classic mode" that lets you play very similar to the Game Boy version of Tetris. There's also a "puzzle mode" (oddly named because Tetris is always a puzzle) which is a fun little diversion, but largely forgettable. One possible improvement is that you can save your score in Tetris Plus--something impossible in the Game Boy version.

The only thing missing is the iconic tetris music. No Korobeiniki here, sorry.

Here's a youtube video of Tetris Plus in action:

I can't vouch for Tetris on PSN.

Now forgive me for stating the obvious, but I know you own a Game Boy Player. If you really want to play the Game Boy Version of Tetris on your TV, what's stopping you?

So you want instant lock, no wallkicks and a pure randomizer instead of one that avoid repeats.

Well, if the PSN one is new, it probably follows the Tetris Guidelines and thus is not what you are looking for. I don't know anything about Tetris Plus.

So yeah, I don't think I can help you much.

I'll probably go with Tetris Plus. The GB version of Plus was fantastic.

The PS1 version has the advantage of a permanent off line disc copy. The PSN version offers convenience of not having to pop a disc in to play, but only a volatile PSN backup solution.

The PSN version is "new" tetris .. all the modern trappings, none of the classic. I've never played the PS1 Tetris Plus, but I must play all possible versions of the game, so I am going to pick it up and give it a whirl.

(I love both the PSP and PS3 PSN renditions of Tetris for the record -- I'm not a die-hard-Tetris-must-always-be-the-same kinda gal. Sometimes it's fun to play a different spin (har har) on it. The new modes in the PS3/PSP versions are quite fun.)

@irixith, have you played the PSP Mini "Tetrimino" game? Is that any good? It's cheap.

Here's a good review of it. It's only new to our store, it's been out in the EU forever.

It's a shameless Tetris clone, but about as classic as Tetris gets. No hold, no infinite spin. Saves three high scores. Only has one background. It might be just what you're looking for. :P

Edit: Controls are a bit .. "stiff" though, and buttons aren't configurable.

sounds good, but can you confirm -- does it work on PS3 too or just PSP?
