*SPOILER*
Why the hell did Takasu end up with Taiga and not Minorin? He seriously chose the typical tsundere over the fun-loving awesomely crazy one? That's bull. Especially since he was in love with Minorin way before he even met Taiga.
That's the thing. He wasn't really in love with Minorin. He just had a crush on her. It wasn't until he really started interacting with Taiga that he realized what real love was.
Are you sure? Because I never noticed any indication of it being just a crush.

Looking forward to your thoughts on that one. I've been curious about it myself.

Watch Goldenboy, it's awesome! Make sure you get the subtitled version, any dubbed anime straight up sucks.

I imagine they'll keep making those until they stop making bad dubs. The bar's been raised in recent years, but it's still kinda low.

Me, I'll always prefer to hear the original cast, but I try not to be a snot about it.

He wasn't being an elitist or a snot. He just said the anime dub sucks.

As for myself, I'm a sub-elitist all the way. I will admit that the Cowboy Bebop dub is excellent, but that's about it.

Any way you slice it, subs are better, IMO. Dubs can be pretty good too, but I prefer subs. I find that most actual good English dubs are for higher budget international releases. Like Studio Ghibli releases from Disney or releases from Sony like Paprika.

My "snot" comment wasn't directed at anyone. I just try not to overdo it with my own opinions on dubbing, that's all.
He just said the anime dub sucks.
Actually, he said any anime dub sucks.

Dubs have been getting better in recent years. Compared to the 80's or even the CN broadcast era of Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon, most the dubs of today are glowing beacons of joy. I think it really depends on the length of the series and whether or not it's getting broadcast on tv or not. Bleach for example, can be pretty cringe-worthy to watch in English.

So, I'll agree that most subs are better. But it's shouldn't be said that ALL subs are better. The Cowboy Bebop dub (including the movie) is excellent and neither of the dubs of Fullmetal Alchemist are bad. Ghost in the Shell SAC is also excellent.

A bigger budget generally equals more money to spend on a talented voice cast. That's just a given. But some films luck out. For instance, both of the My Neighbor Totoro dubs are excellent. The more recent Disney release obviously had the immense power of the the magical rat behind it, as well as well known voice actors. But the earlier 20th Century Fox VHS release was just as well dubbed, and still remains my favorite version of the two to this day (To note, I have 3 copies of this movie: The VHS, the DVD, and the Disney re-release for the added bonus of the new dub and the included subtitled version. That's how much I love this movie). Hell, even Siskel and Ebert gave the earlier version two thumbs up, and those two could never agree on anything.

Moving on. While browsing the dvd section of my local game store, I came across Ah! My Goddess, The Movie. It even still had the pencil board it originally was supposed to come with. It was a pretty entertaining film. I really enjoyed it. And that's saying a lot sense I've never seen the series. I suppose I'm going to have to watch it now....Lucky for me it's on Hulu

It's not usually the better voice cast that makes big-budget dubs better. I've heard some awful dub performances from some incredibly talented voice actors who are fine outside of dubbing (and in better dubs). The difference is in the director and in the dubbing techniques used. The more the director knows what a good performance sounds like, the less they try to slavishly match the mouth flaps, and the more they allow the cast to interact, the better the dub. Having the time and money to do more takes doesn't hurt either.
