What's The Deal With YouTube?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

But they've got to protect their own ass. Anyone who sues YouTube is suing Google, and we all know Google has very deep pockets. Plus, and I'm not being flippant, the sense of entitlement people have these days is embarrassing. I'm not saying W.Warrior said "I'm mad because I can't get what I want at this very second", but man, I'm just thankful we even have a service like youtube that makes finding and uploading videos so simple.

Then that should be an issue for the band and/or the venue to deal with. YouTube should not be liable for that. YouTube wasn't there - it's not their fault the stage collapsed and people can't follow the rules.

If you paid to get in, you can't take a video of it. They don't want unauthorized taping of their show to find it's way online (it might not even be the band's choice - could be the venue) because it competes with ticket sales for the location and authorized videos. Understandably, you weren't looking to view the performance but just the stage collapse, but that's still covered by the no video thing.

No it isn't. I don't think you get it: YouTube can be sued for millions over this. Copyrights aren't cheap, and people have the right to own their own personal/intellectual property. Is it stupid, yes, in the same way the NFL doesn't allow rebroadcasting or taping of games. But! Just think about the visibility of YouTube. Billions of videos, and lawyers are drooling and just waiting to sue over copyrighted material used without permission.

If people are confident that they're not violating copyright, why not upload to another tube instead? Youtube is a business and while we can dislike it, only actions will have effects.

To add to this - Youtube, unlike a torrent search engine, is actually hosting the files. It's a much bigger issue for them because unless they decide to shift the blame to the person uploading material, they can possibly be held responsible for it.
