It uses replica parts that aren't as good as the real thing. Like I said though, they're very easy to swap out for 'real' parts if you want to.

Not sure what you are asking....the grass in the background? That's part of a side yard on the NW corner of my property.
Just the side yard? That is a huuuuuge yard!

Bacteria and I both posted info on building Arcade Controls with a gutted Keyboard Encoder PCB. An inexpensive approach.

Yeah, exactly. They are 'arcade' parts, in that they work the same, just not as high quality.

You can always swap out the parts in the future. People do it all the time.
Yeah, AQ is right, for a PnP solution, the X-Arcade is pretty much a home run. I just dont like their parts, the sticks are stiff, and sometimes unresponsive, compared to a nice set of Happ sticks, and their buttons aren't as nice as a real arcade control panel.

I'm a bit of an Arcade fan so I always prefer the 'real' thing. AQ is also right in the switching suggestion. Swapping the sticks and buttons on the X-Arcades is pretty easily done, and painless.

But if you spend the money on the sticks/buttons, you could easily build yourself a little CP and probably save the money. I dunno, it's a bit of a tossup, really.
I can vouch for the quality of X-Arcade parts, well buttons and joysticks at least. In my first MAME build, I stripped the parts out of an X-Arcade tankstick and dropped them in a custom control panel. The buttons and microswitches are exactly the same as what you would find in a generic cabinet on an operator's route. The machine I built was used in a large office and really beat to hell daily. For two years. Lots of "Track and Field". =) The trackball is only so-so.

:( I haven't been able to sign in to BYOAC forums. How often do they "confirm" accounts?

I live on 4 acres that are themselves surrounded by farm fields, wooded areas, etc. I drive down a 1/2 mile driveway to the house and can't see neighbors from my place.

Wow... 4 acres... Never been to NE.PA. All I know is Plymouth Mtg and Philly in PA. Doesn't seem so far but obviously is.

Anyhoo, turning the ship around~ So how's your progress on the MAME cabinet? :)
