Those who've used Gamefly, would you recommend it?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Those who've used Gamefly, would you recommend it?

Post by Flak Beard »

My local Blockbuster seems to never have games in that I want to rent, so I'm thinking of switching over to using Gamefly. I don't know anyone personally that uses it, so I figured I'd post here to get some opinions.

How fast and reliable are they with shipping? Are the games usually beat up or are the discs pretty clean for the most part? Is it hard to get new releases sent to you?

If I do join, it'll be the one-at-a-time plan and hopefully I can get in about 3 rentals per month. That should make it worth my money.

Never used it myself, but I seem to recall issues with trying to get all the newest releases.
But that is usually the case with any rental service....

I dislike them as of right now.

I liv in Columbus, OH and my shipping center is Pittsburgh, PA (about a 3 hr drive) and it takes me 3-4 days to get my games once shipped. It should be next day or 2 days max from Pittsburgh to Columbus. I've had 2 games not make it to me so far (I've been a member since February) and I've had 1 scratched up to the point it would not play in my Wii (it was a Gamecube game). As far as getting new releases, that hasn't been an issue yet. That's probably been the 1 bright spot in Gamefly for me. I got Sega Superstars Tennis shipped out the day after it released, same with Worms: A Space Oddity(although this wasn't a highly sought after title I'm sure). This is my last month with the service though before I give up on them.
Atari 2600 (AV mod), NES, SNES (region switch for PAL), Virtual Boy, Gamecube, Wii (D2CKey), PSX (Stealth V), PS2 (independence exploit w/ 160 GB HDD), Goldstar 3DO, Philips CD-i, Dreamcast, Saturn (racketboy's chip), Sega Genesis 2 + CD2 + 32X + Power Base Converter, Game Gear.

I used a free trial with them once, and they claimed they never received the game I returned. I argued with them by email and phone, and then they just forgot about it. About 6 weeks later I got alerted that they finally received the game. Someone in their factory or whatever probably misplaced the package.

I'd go with Goozex instead.

Just found out a dude at my work used them for a while and it took them six business days to ship one game to him. Maybe I shouldn't sign up. :?

Too bad Blockbuster Online doesn't offer games, because I've used them for movies for the past year with no problems. It only takes on business day to get a movie too.

Does Goozex let you pick who you get a game from? So could I check details on the condition of each game?

I don't think it's cut and dry selecting who you get it from, but you don't have to accept it from a bad trader (from what I could glean).

According to their latest commercial, you can't be a gamer without gamefly.
