I'm going to start my challenge today. I'll post later with an updated list of the 10 games I'll be attempting. It might be a little tough, as I'm only giving myself until August 22nd to complete this challenge, and I don't even have a list of games to work with yet. I think I'll be able to make pretty good progress though if I stay committed...

Gave Battletoads/Double Dragon another go this morning. I can get to the Asteroid level (stage 4) with 5+ lives pretty consistantly now. Found out that if you make it to a part where a large ship shoots orbs at you (as opposed to rocks and pokey space-balls) you can snag a couple free men if your quick. Started battling some UFOs and beat the first 3 without much trouble, but the fourth one was giving me a hard time. Had all my continues left, but had to turn it off since my wife just got home and it was going to be my only chance to make it to the gym today. I may take it to work with me tonight since I havnt quite got a hankering to play FFVIII again yet.

I think I'll join the fun 72 pages late with my pal NesimLE. Better late than never right? There's still some summer left and I've already beaten a handful of games that I had deemed "summer games" for myself.

MUSHA - Genesis
Maximum Carnage - SNES
X-Men Mutant Apocalypse - SNES
Super Robot Taisen Z 2 - PSP
Breath of Fire IV - PSX
Metal Black - Saturn
Soukyugurentai Otokuyo - Saturn
Ryu ga Gotoku Of The End - PS3 (Beaten)
Shadow Tower Abyss - PS2 (Beaten)
Super Robot Taisen MX - PSP (Beaten)

Shouldn't be too rough, I think I've got a good balance between time consuming games and games that can be beaten in one session. I think it should be a good challenge, overall.

This is on my list too and probably up soon. I am thinking of using the Genesis arcade stick with it...

Had anyone here beat it? It is tough? Fair?

Tough but fair. You'll breeze through some sections - and hate life for others.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Finished off Battletoads/Double Dragon this afternoon. Got to level 7 (last stage) with all my continues left and had to use one after getting there. The last two stages were kind of pointless and that last boss fight was very anticlimactic.

The trick to the Asteroid level was to dodge the non-rock projectiles instead of shoot them. Thats why I was having to much trouble on it before. Now I still lose a life or two, but its much easier overall. And the boss fight on that level is the best in the game. My only real complaint other than the fairly lame last boss is that the hoverbike part is pathetic. When you can finish it on your first attempt without losing any lives you know its not a good representation of the Battletoads hoverbike experience. Otherwise I loved it. The music was fantastic, controls were sharp, great blend of atmosphere between the two different games being represented. Had a great time playing.

That just leaves FFVIII now. Joy!!

Super Metroid (Super Nes) - Complete
Rayman (PS)
Harvest Moon (Super Nes)
Resident Evil Code Veronica (Dreamcast)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
Lightening Force (Genesis) - Complete
Paper Mario (N64)
Fur Fighters (PS2)
Phantasy Star (SMS)
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (PCE CD) - Complete

Tonight I sat down and decided that I would tolerate no more delays. I was going to finish Rondo come hell or high water.

After I put out the flames and sopped up the flood waters, I beat the game!

Rondo has so many awesome things going for it, and I already blabbed about them earlier. Its enough now to say I loved the game and I'm glad I finally chose to play it. And even though I think Bloodlines was brilliant, Rondo of Blood topped it.

Playing as Maria is stupidly fun by the way. Her double jump makes her so nimble, and really, playing a Castlevania title as a little girl who lopped off Death's head by throwing a bird at him is really something special.

I also appreciated the boss gauntlet at the end of stage 7 when you fight Shaft. It was cool to see those old CV1 bosses, and it was nice of the game to start me back at the last part of that fight when I died there.

I didn't play every single level yet (though I will) but I did see both character's endings. Maria's was...cute. Though I have to say, Dracula was a pretty easy fight. For Richter it was simple with good timing. For Maria (with whom I tackled it first) it was like taking a nap. Oh well.

Question though for those of you who've beaten the game: When I beat it with Richter, the castle did not crumble. Is that normal, or do I need to reach stage 8 from one of the alternate levels? In short, did I get a bad ending?

Fantastic news, after half a dozen more attempt I was able to beat Seifer. I'd love to say it was my ingenius combination of GFs, items and buffs, but realistically it was because he didnt use his Bloodfest move even once and normally I would get hit with 2 in a row and I couldnt recover from both. I was immediately treated with a save and asked to swap to the 4th and final disc. Unfortunately it took me so long to beat him that I didnt have time to move forward anymore.

Hopefully I wont get so stuck again and can finish this up in the very near future!
