The Fancy Pants Adventures

Image
*click to play*

This is an oldie but a goodie and it's seen some updates in the last few months. This is a fast, acrobatic platformer game that gives you lots of fun hills, jumps, and loops to run around. It started as a flash game, but was prettied up for PSN and XBL releases. You can still play the first 2 Worlds of the original flash releases on PC and now there is also a preview of the full lenth game.

Since the official site can run a bit slow, here are some alternate links to the games at Armor Games:

World 2: http://armorgames.com/play/553/the-fanc ... re-world-2

Why thank you, JT; that's awfully sweet of you! :) But, I think I should mention that this is secretly a horror game. I learned that the hard way after playing it. Rather nasty thing for the developer to do actually.
Oh, I didn't realize that because I didn't actually play it. I just saw My Little Pony and thought you would like it.

I've played this one before; definitely worth the half-hour or so it takes to complete it.

VVVVVV vs. Super Meat Boy

Image

Terry Cavanagh, the man behind VVVVVV, has created a version of Super Meat Boy in the VVVVVV style.

OK, so VVVVVV was very hard, and Super Meat Boy was super hard, like really hard. So you can imagine what happens when you combine the two: it's literally impossible.

Sweatshop

Today's game is one with a political message. In Sweatshop, the designers have cleverly used the tower defense genre to get you to understand how sweatshop managers begin to abuse their employees. You are the sweatshop manager taking advantage of your poor, underprivileged employees (not that your boss is much nicer to you). It plays off of gamers' needs to be efficient and productive as they work to achieve their goals and challenges them to bend their morals as a means to those ends. The game does a nice job of both giving you empathy for why sweatshop managers demand such grueling work from their slave-like employees while also making you feel horrible for doing it. Will you hire a child laborer to cut costs when facing a big production deadline? Test your ethics in this fun game about horrible things.

BioGems

I'm really loving BioGems. If you're a fan of games like Puzzle Quest or Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, then I think you will love BioGems too. It's a competitive match-3 puzzle game like you've seen many times before, but there is added depth in the combat system. Different colored matches give you different effects and you can mix and match some deadly comboes, then build up your Rage meter for a deadly attack. Plus, the game is joyously animated to keep it fun and cheeky.

Dino Strike

Image

Everything is better with dinosaurs. Especially robotically enhanced dinosaurs, because it just doesn't get any cooler than that. Dino Strike is a pretty straightforward beatemup, except you are trying to save robo-enslaved dinosaurs who will then help you fight. At least I think that's what I was doing when I wasn't pummeling some dude in the face without any clear justification for my actions.

Sweatshop recently got featured in a PBS article. It's an interesting read:
