Has anyone every given up collecting?

Just a curious question.
So those of you wit5h long memorys will remember when I sold off most of my games collection a few months back, before I started selling my collection sat at about 600+ games more than I ever needed to play but after a while I just got sick of having them, they took up too much room, a lot of them I didn't playu anymore and being honest retro hardware isn't that great (NES was a nightmare as it would have trouble playing games all the time) so I decided to get rid of everything for the benifit of more space and more money. Now my games collection sits at 200+ games, I only own games from the PS1 onwards (gameboy onwards with handhelds) now and even with those consoles a lot of games were sold off, my gamecube collection one had as many as 115 games in it, now I have have 40 gamecube games. Put it simply I've made myself more picky with what I play.
As for the old consoles, well I still have ways of playing the games.

Anyway who else has done something like this?

I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum that I sold my entire complete USA boxed SNES collection, but I've sold more than that -- my NES, GB, GBC, GBA, N64, PS1 and other collections. The fact of the matter is that the bloody things really do take up a huge amount of room, and are a huge pain to move around. I'm just as happy with a system and a flash cartridge these days, yay for modern technology.

I love the games, but I don't feel like owning physical copies makes my love any more legitimate. I've been there, done that. Not to mention, the amount of money I gained selling it all was atrocious, allowed me to get out of university debt and have a fresh start.

My physical storage space can't keep up with my gaming interests, so I've largely stopped collecting physical copies. I often find myself getting annoyed now if I can't get a digital copy of a game I want, which is weird because I used to get annoyed when I couldn't get a physical copy of a game I wanted. I even keep a lot of my CD/DVD games in binders and store the cases in boxes.

As much fun as it is to show off a gargantuan collection of all media, it's also nice to actually decorate a room. My house looks less like a Blockbuster video and more like a nice living space. Oh, look there's space for a bamboo plant here. Perhaps I could put a lamp over here. Yes, that's refreshing.

+1 to digital copies. I *love* digital copies. From PSN to XBLA to eBooks and music and everything else. I was on the bandwagon AGES ago, I wish more people would quit the need to hold a disc and get with the program. :p

As far as collecting goes, I've stopped buying games that I just think I'd like and just bought games that I'd actually beat. I'd like to go digital for future consoles but pricing needs to better match what I'd be willing to pay for a digital copy.

I have largely stopped as well...I finally realized that the rate at which I bought didn't keep up with how quickly I played. I don't think I've bought a new (physical copy of a) game since Starcraft II, either. I've toyed with the idea of backing everything up and selling most of it, but I don't I can stand to let it go, especially since I feel like it's a large portion of my childhood I'd be selling as well.

I've never given up on it, and have no intention of ever doing so, but I have definitely slowed down the past 6 months or so. I've been spending my money on DVDs instead lately, because I just got a little tired of games. I'll probably start spending more money on games once I've taken a long enough break.

I have. I really just don't see the point anymore. If I see something interesting I'll buy it but no more collection for me.

I just ended up buying only the games I really really want and not just any game for the console. For instance, when I first started collecting for the Neo Geo I hoarded everything but after awhile you notice how shitty about 70% of those games are and so I just sold them and kept what I really wanted. I've been thinking of collecting some of the PS2 RPGs but there are so many and they're not that cheap $15- 20+ a game, however, I haven't gotten to the point where there isn't enough room yet.
