Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I just watched antichrist last night. I am left feeling awkward and confused.

I hated that movie, it's an art film that end ups becoming an exploitation film.fvgazi wrote:I just watched antichrist last night. I am left feeling awkward and confused.

The movie is indeed quite disturbing. Loved the bird scene though. Thought it was funny as Hell, in a fucked up kinda way...KillerJuan77 wrote:I hated that movie, it's an art film that end ups becoming an exploitation film.fvgazi wrote:I just watched antichrist last night. Yeah, the film tried to be serious and shit but it just tried too hard to shock you.elmagicochrisg wrote:The movie is indeed quite disturbing. Loved the bird scene though. Batman Returns
What the hell did I just watch? The atmosphere, production design, music, etc was all awesome, but geez, nothing made ANY sense at all. Story was confusing, a majority of the characters were unlikable, etc.
On the other hand, there a certain appeal in the sheer level of 'weirdness' in this movie. I happen to really like weird shit.
So yeah I don't know man. Very flawed movie with some really cool ambiance.

Same here, not sure why people love Von Trier so much, plus I hate how snobby critics love Antichrist yet they see something like Cannibal Holocaust, I Spit On Your Grave or A Serbian Film and they just say "IM OFFENDED AND DISGUSTED 1 STAR YOU SUCK AT LIFE AND FILMMAKING".noiseredux wrote:I thought it was the worst movie I've watched. Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows pt. 2. I enjoyed it, but I still wonder why they changed some scenes while keeping others intact. I personally could have done without some of the added/altered scenes near the end. They just felt a little too 'tacked on' to me. Oh, and try as I might to ignore it, that "19 years later" ending still felt as awkward as it did in the book. Maybe even more so, since they really didn't do too much to age the actors. All those special effects and all they did was tell Radcliffe not to shave that day? They were supposed to be almost 40. *sigh*
And I didn't think about it till after I got home, but what happened to Peter Pettigrew? If we're going by the book, he was supposed to be dead by the last film, but they kept him alive. Did I just completely miss him lying dead somewhere or did they leave the fate of his character up in the air? Anyone remember?
That is where people's concern is exactly. It's not so much the actions in the book, but rather that all the actions are treated as socially acceptable. One of the commenter's of the previously mentioned link said it better than I could: " Look, this isn't about "impressionable young girls" or whatever to me. It's about reinforcing an existing cultural context that permits behavior that can be controlling and sometimes even abusive toward women. I don't think girls are going to read this and think "I want some guy to stalk me!", I think people generally are going to read it and continue accepting cultural attitudes toward relationships that already exist, even if they can be harmful to women (and men, for that matter). These works are neither created nor received in a cultural vacuum - they were written and are read with existing narratives about the way relationships between men and women should be in mind."
And that's the last I'm going to mention it. Now I'm going to go watch something that's purposefully funny/entertaining so that I can cleanse my mind of the whole thing....Maybe Monty Python will work......Or the Hill's Have Eyes.....

Um....If you take out consent in any relationship it's rape. Married or not. I'll give you the other points though, even if I think you went a little to far in your 'take out all context' part. I was just trying to make a point that some people explain away his actions simply because he's a vampire (I suppose I wasn't clear about that). It shouldn't matter what he is. No matter what/who he is, a lot of his actions are still disturbing.Limewater wrote: .....A married couple have sex. Take out the whole "consent" aspect, HOLY CRAP! RAPE!
I really don't think Twilight teaches twelve-year-old girls that relationships should be like the one in the book. I think it's successful because twelve-year-old girls already want relationships like the one in the book, and Stephanie Meyers just gave them what they wanted.

Haha. I've been meaning to rewatch this one for a long time since it's been forever. I remember liking it a lot though, but yeah. Will be interesting to see how it stands the test of time.AppleQueso wrote:Batman Returns
