Since when is $39.99 a 'budget' price. Holy shit.
...They are going to have to add a LOT of Mega Man characters for me to get back on this ride.
Marvel VS Capcom 3 PSN & XBL ID Thread / Ultimate Edition?
Re: Marvel VS Capcom 3 PSN & XBL ID Thread / Revived!
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

God Damn it! I thought for sure they weren't gonna do this crap for MVC.sevin0seven wrote:source: http://thequarterbin.com/2011/07/15/ult ... e-release/The title will be a re-release similar to Super Street Fighter IV, which many fighting game fans will remember was budget priced at $39.99, and came with heaping handful of new characters exclusive to that version. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will see a similar release later this year, and with the character count jumping from 38 (including DLC fighters Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath) to 50, there are at least a dozen reasons to be excited.
not again...
I'm partially happy, mostly pissed off.
There better be more content, that's all I have to say. They're going to need some special characters to sell me on this...

Not to sound like a dick, but I don't understand the recent aggression towards fighting games getting updates/re-releases. It's been going on since the very beginning, which was like 20 years ago. I personally don't mind it, I like when fighters get new characters and balance changes are implemented. I look forward to it even. If I don't feel the package is worth it, then I wait for a price drop or simply don't buy. It's not like a new version makes the version you already bought any less playable.
Not to get way off tangent, but there are plenty of franchises that are guilty of recycling their games annually (sometimes even more often), but charging full price each time.

Re: Marvel VS Capcom 3 PSN & XBL ID Thread / Revived!
Normally I'd agree with you brunoafh, but MVC3 here gets under my skin because they claimed they were going to support it with DLC.
The little bit that they did offer up (Jill, Shuma, six costumes) were all finished or nearly so before the game was released. After that?
In my case also, as a matter of opinion, I wasn't very satisfied with MVC3 in the first place. I grew bored of it within two weeks, and haven't played it since.
I'd also like to point out that the original game came out four and a half months ago. I'm not one of those people with hatred for Capcom, (I quite like them actually) but this kinda strikes me as something they always intended to do, and the talk of dlc for the original game was just so much fluff.
Granted, they never absolutely confirmed anything, but they never bothered to deny it either.
I assure you, I'm not a hater, nor do I have any rage. This is typical company behavior really, but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

I hear what you're saying on all of those points.
If they had supported the game with DLC though, these 12 new characters would have cost you $60 plus tax. This re-release also includes Jill and Shuma if I'm not mistaken, and may even include all previous DLC. It doesn't really seem like a bad deal to me. If a potential consumer feels that it's a bad deal, then so be it. Don't buy it then, no harm done. I'm saying this as someone that doesn't even really like MvC 3.

I guess for someone like me the fear would be that the content would be as weak as Arcade Edition was for SSFIV. There does get to be a point where you get nothing in return for your money, you know?brunoafh wrote:I hear what you're saying on all of those points.

Oh its not a bad deal. In fact, I'd say its a pretty good one (though if they had supported the original game, I doubt they would have gone up to 12 characters), especially for people who didn't buy the original game.brunoafh wrote:I hear what you're saying on all of those points.

I'm just wondering if it was necessary.
You're right in the end though, one votes with their dollar. And if Street Fighter 4 is any indication, Ultimate MVC3 might not even be the last we hear of it.

Re: Marvel VS Capcom 3 PSN & XBL ID Thread / Revived!
I personally think that they didn't bother to do DLC because they didn't make enough money off of the game itself. Apparently the reason Mortal Kombat decided to do their 'Updates through online streaming' deal was because it allowed them to bypass getting huge update files approved by both Microsoft and Sony. Getting them to approve it takes money. The process takes money. The bandwidth takes money. Money money money.
Mortal Kombat sold more than MvC3 and even they couldn't handle the costs it would take, so they figured out a work around. MvC3 does not have such a work around.
I get a pretty good feeling that this update is going to have such a work around built into it. I really hope that this update is also going to completely overhaul the online matchmaking and general online experience.
@At above character requests:
Sounds like you guys wanna play Marvel vs Capcom 2. Honestly though, Hayato isn't relevant AT ALL anymore, and Gambit & Cyclops would have to wait on the approval of Marvel themselves (apparently, Capcom WANTS to put Gambit in, but Marvel bitchslapped that idea.) Considering Marvel wouldn't even approve made-up alternate color schemes for their characters in this game (which infuriates me - so many characters lack even basic colors like blue, red, black, white, etc., making them hard to fit on a team without it being an eyesore), I get the feeling the only characters they'll be allowing for the update will be characters that will be appearing in upcoming big-name comic book series and/or blockbuster movies.
