It is? I thought they made some kind of jokey Ark reference in the film at one point...but I may be thinking of Last Crusade.

Yep. It's a prequel. The opening sequences state what times the movies take place and DOOM takes place before ARK.

A friend stated (and for all I know it could be true) DOOM was a prequel for the sole fact that Lucas always wanted to introduce Jones in a white tuxedo

Toxic, sure, but abusive? I don't really see how.

This may be total crap, but I don't think Twilight encourages girls to seek out horrible relationships. Rather, it expresses the fantasies teenage girls already have. It's wish-fulfillment fantasy the same way Commando is for young guys. If Bella didn't want Edward watching her sleep, it would have been horrific and creepy. Since she did, it was really romantic and stuff. I don't pretend to completely understand it.

They do not only meet one, BUT FIFTEEN of the National Domestic Violence's signs you are in an abusive relationship.

As a female myself it bothers me when 12 year old girls go off about how they want an Edward to treat them like he does Bella. It'd be one thing if this were geared toward adults but it's geared toward teens, many of whom don't have a lot of experience in relationships and knowing what's healthy and what's not. They're watching these movies and reading these books thinking how Edward and Bella are so romantic, not recognizing that it's abuse.

"It's ok, because in Twilight they did the same thing and I was fine with that."

I don't see the big deal with mimicking movies. I once spent a really nice Summer vacation lugging around my dead uncle so that I could use his sweet-ass beach house. No harm, no foul.

Yeah, that's a funny article. I'm confused-- did you actually take it seriously?

If it were a healthy relationship, it wouldn't be dramatic or romantic. It's about high school vampires and werewolves. It's a schlocky guilty pleasure. If it were about a normal, healthy relationship, nobody would have ever read it. There's nothing really healthy about the relationships between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Shredder, or between the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and Rita Repulsa, either.

On a more serious note, I do really agree that girls should not really view Twilight as a model of what a relationship should be like. I'm not really familiar with other similar media. Are there examples in film or literature or other media targeted at teenage girls that you believe do present healthy romantic relationships? If so, what are they? If not, why single out Twilight?

For what it's worth, I don't see a whole lot that's "healthy" in Harry Potter, either.
