"The Video Game Critic"

Post by Weekend_Warrior »

http://www.videogamecritic.net

From Wiki: "The Video Game Critic is a website focused on video-game reviews and run by David Mrozek. It was established in 1999, and is known for featuring comprehensive reviews on many early gaming platforms."

Personally, I've been visiting The Video Game Critic website and message board for several years. I've always enjoyed reading his video game & video game system reviews, and sometimes I even find them helpful like when creating "want lists," or when I'm out retro game hunting (such as remembering if a particular game got a really horrible or generally favorable rating).

Since the website has been going strong for over ten years now and I didn't find any threads on this topic under the "Search" feature , I figured I would at least bring it up for discussion.

So I'm curious what everyone else's opinions are on "The Video Game Critic" and his gaming website. I do know that Dave Mrozek (aka The VGC) was once featured on a Podcast on this website. So there has at least been some notoriety and appreciation here for his work.

Are you familiar with the VGC website?
How do you feel about his review format?
Have you ever found any of his reviews or articles to be helpful in any way?
Do you think that it is a good/worthy contribution to the gaming community?

*Note* All opinions are welcome. But please be respectful, as there is a good chance he could read this. :!:

I find his reviews quite often when I am looking up a game, I tend to read the entire page and go on my way.

I enjoy his reviews, short and to the point and he points out the things I actually want to know about the game.

One of my go-to sites. He rate games by fun factor, as opposed to technical excellence or stuff like historical/cultural importance and popularity.

I'm a big fan of Dave and his site...there's a reason he was featured on the first podcast I did :D

I look at his reviews quite often, like has been said they are short and too the point. I often look there when I have a new system and want to find out the best games, I've found quite a few little gems that I would have otherwise passed by thanks to his reviews.

There are a couple of things about the site itself that bug me, like the list of systems on the left desperately needs to be sorted alphabetically and sometimes I disagree with his opinions and wish there was a comment box on the reviews so that I could propose a counter argument.

I've been visiting Dave's site for a long time... since 2003 I think.

I am glad there is someone like him reviewing all of those games, so people can find a review for older games.

But I disagree with his opinions most of the time, so I don't visit the site that often.

I've only stumbled across his site a few times in the past, but it's not something I regularly visit. Now that I look at it a little more closely though, wow, is this all the work of one man? This website must have taken some serious devotion to gaming in order to create so many reviews for so many systems.

I enjoyed being able to read reviews for really old systems that I used to have like the Colecovision and the Odyssey 2. It's nice that there's a place to find info about games that pretty much pre-date game reviews.

Love his site. The short and to the point reviews are different, but in a good way.

Pretty much this. It is wonderful that a review site even exists for retro games, but the way he writes reviews sometimes makes it pretty obvious that he didn't actually complete the game.
