So far this week I've watched:
Fall of the House of Usher. Good movie. I've been watching a lot of older movies lately (TCM is my new best friend) and I'd picked this up for cheap a while ago when my local FYE went *Poof!*. It took me a while to finally get to watching it, but I'm glad I finally got to it. I'm finding lately that I'm really drawn to the older films vibrant color palettes. Movies today use so much color filtering that you almost forget how vibrant a field of flowers or a carpet can actually look when it's not washed out in shades of grey. Oh, and Vincent Price was in it and I love Vincent Price, so that's always a plus. I will say though that he looks much better with black hair. The whiteness sort of threw me off.

Batman: Gothem Knights. I enjoyed this more than I thought I was going too. I picked this up for $2 a while ago figuring that for that price I wouldn't feel bad, even if it sucked. But it didn't, so I'm pleased. It was really interesting seeing the different art styles used and watching the (loosely) connected story fit together. I think my favorite short was the first story and visually seeing how each kid described a different version of the same Batman. Robo-Batman sort of cracked me up.

The Muppet Show: Season 2. Okay. So not every skit holds up as well as it did when I was younger and some episode feel sort of flat now (I'm looking at you, Edgar Bergen). So what. I still love the Muppets. I've only made it through the first 3 disks, but so far I think my favorite episodes are the ones that feature Milton Berle, Madeline Kahn, Bernadette Peters, Cleo Laine, Julie Andrews and Peter Sellers. And while the other episodes have some entertaining moments, the previously mentioned episodes as a whole just feel a bit more 'complete' than the others. I don't know how else to explain it. I guess they just seamlessly hit that satisfying 'warm, fuzzy' mark without throwing a wrench into the mood. Now I just have to go and finish that last disk.

I watched Insidious with the girlfriend last night. Wasn't bad, and actually had a few creepy moments that were cool.

You know what creeped me out and pissed me off at the same time? When that freaking red-headed demon poked his head out from behind that other guy. I knew it was coming because of the trailers and it still made me jump. (Luckily I was alone in the theatre so there was nobody there to mock me.)

that's where we disagre Luke. The only thing I look for from my forms of entertainment is well... entertainment. So to me, Sin City was good. Because it entertained me.

I figure there's a good chance it'll be stupid, but if its stupid and fun it'll be worth it.

I watched Insidious with the girlfriend last night. Wasn't bad, and actually had a few creepy moments that were cool.

I loved that film. And yes, the SPOILER:scene with the demon face stopped my heart for like 3 seconds

Departures

An emotional film about one taking on an unwanted job preparing the dead for the afterlife. I never knew the preparation was part of the funeral process in Japan. Not done in a morbid way but with great dignity. The reconnect to his lost father is unforgettable.

I think the Twilight series could be the next-gen of awful-bad, but some movies just stink.

I really don't understand the hatred of the Twilight movies. They're definitely corny enough to be fun to watch. I saw the first Twilight film opening night at an art cinema that served alcohol. I was one of, like, three guys in the theater along with a large crowd of grown women. Everyone was drinking, laughing, and having a great time.

I don't see how you can watch the school science lab scene and not get a chuckle, or the bit about vampire baseball. It's not that different in a lot of ways to Above the Law. It fills a similar niche within a different genre.
