I Was Hacked
Re: I Was Hacked
I would just laugh if someone tried to hack my PayPal. I have a whole total of $7 in my bank account

Re: I Was Hacked
Mine was hacked a few months ago. I had not used the account in months and then my wife uses it to buy some knitting supplies from a mom n pop shop. A day or so later I get a email on my phone about a $50 transaction. Someone was trying to buy gold in some Korean MMO with my account. I quickly filed a claim and Paypal returned my money. It was then that I learned you can setup your Paypal account to send you a security key text message every time you log in. So even if a hacker gets your password, as long as they don't have your phone, they won't be able to log in.

Dsheinem never called you out, just offered a suggestion. Having a secure password really is a responsibility to not take lightly, and most accounts that are hacked have weak passwords. Take me for example. All my passwords are case sensitive, and include numbers and numerous symbols. Just like my credit card and paypal accounts have the password of ILOveChickenMcNuggets4oneDollar+IlovebOObiesfromthe90's.dsheinem wrote: I didn't say it was your fault, I said that you should know if your password is strong or not. Having a weak password on your account is akin to leaving your credit card on the ground. Of course only criminals would steal it, but you've made it the low hanging fruit.
Wait, I said too much.

The other thing is to vary your passwords between web accounts. Don't use the same password for multiple accounts. If one website is hacked and the password is stored in clear text, then the hacker can try your username/email/password at other sites to see if they will work.

You don't even know my password, and you're claiming this. You're the kind of person that defends the hackers at Sony, too, aren't you? All I was saying was I don't know how they got in. Even if my password was weak, say for example I had "cat" as my password. It's still not my fault that some douchebag took the time to try 100s of variations of passwords before falling on "cat". All these hacker idiots should be in prison whether it's the two-bit criminal that went after me, or it's anonymous going after Sony.dsheinem wrote: I didn't say it was your fault, I said that you should know if your password is strong or not. Dude, come on. I sympathize with you, but are you seriously missing the point this hard?BurningDoom wrote:You don't even know my password, and you're claiming this. You're the kind of person that defends the hackers at Sony, too, aren't you?
Re: I Was Hacked
There are laws, and there is also personal responsibility. A weak password is pretty much the equivalent to leaving your ATM card in an ATM and then being pissed off if a passerby emptied your account. Yes, the criminal is a douche, but you still have the responsibility to protect what is yours.BurningDoom wrote:

And I've now had to change my password because apparently Cat&IalsoLove90'sbOObies has also been hacked. DAMN YOU NOISEREDUX AND YOUR INFERNAL HACKING!
