Hey guys, a friend of mine a few years ago had a device that would plug into the bottom of a Super Famicom game so it could play on the American SNES. I wanted to know if anybody had one of these devices and how reliable they are, as I may look into purchasing one in the future, and I really don't want to try some of the conversions I'd seen on the net.
So what model, if any, have you guys got?

Yes, break out the plastic tabs inside the SNES cartridge slot. A quick google search will show you how to do this.

i have a generic one to use on my SFC when i get it. SFX games like starfox and mario rpg don't work.
and i get a funny error message about bootlegging when i put killer instinct on a game genie on the convertor.
also you can mod the cardtridges.

You can mod the cartridges? Thanks for the idea, vlame, but I doubt I'd be able to easily do that, and while I'm not really big on collecting manuals and boxes, I kinda want to keep the cartridge in original condition. And you also bring up another question: do game genies work with these converters? I've got one laying around that I haven't used in a long time, it might be fun to screw around with.
no, you should sell it to me. honestly, im pretty sure you can mod the game genie to be a convertor. it's basically the same premise.Ack wrote:You can mod the cartridges? i had a converter cartridge years back that made the screen scroll wildly - it was very short, light grey, and had no labels or any kind - avoid this one. a friend said it was weak contacts, but resoldering didn't fix anything. the first time around, i just drilled holes into the super famicom cart (ouch!) but i later learned of the snes mod. i HIGHLY recommend that method as opposed to using converter carts - it's extremely easy and it's not at all noticeable, so i doubt it would bring the resale value of your console down.
