New cyberpunk PC exclusive: Hard Reset

Post by J T »

Hard Reset is a new game that will be coming out in a short two months. It is developed by a new studio called "Flying Wild Hogs", which includes former members of People Can Fly (Painkiller, Bulletstorm) and CD Projekt Red (The Witcher).

A trailer just came out. They've kept pretty hush hush about this game until now. I guess they are banking on 2 months of hype being just the right amount since everyone else spills the beans about their upcoming games years in advance.

I don't know much about the game yet other than you can expect some heavy influence from Bladerunner and The Matrix. It sounds promising. There's a teaser trailer at their website:

Well the teaser looks cool.

I think its a good idea to hold off on news until just a couple of months before release. It ensures a game stays on my radar rather than forgetting about it over the course of 3 years of development.

I love Cyberpunk so looking foward to it, but the teaser doesn't really have anything to go on.

It gives you a ton! You have a magic eye and you'll be able to kill someone and then make a snarky comment about how you just "hard reset" him.

And out of nowhere it looks like Deus Ex HR could have some nice competition.

I would love to see sci-fi/cyberpunk make a comeback too by the way. This, Deus Ex HR, and Prey 2, I'm stoked for all of them. I guess Prey 2 isn't totally cyberpunk, but it's definitely REAL sci-fi.

Thought I'd bump this topic for an update. There's a new trailer out with some actual gameplay. Looks cool. :D

If you want to show some amazing graphics, it’s better and easier to develop the game for PCs. Also, in the era of movie-like shooters almost ‘on rails,’ with player-environment interaction as limited as possible, we wanted to create a game for old-school PC players, raised on all those forgotten Dooms, Quakes, and Painkillers.
Wow, I like these guys. Looks awesome!

So here's what I picked up from the gameplay trailer:

1. Two weapons with multiple fuctions as a transformation. Each gun has unique ammo, but the ammo between gun modes is shared, and depletes differently based on how you use it. Seems like a well implemented version of universal ammo.

2. Health does not regenerate; there are health pickups. Armor regenerates, slowly (possibly faster outside of combat). Armor is Doom-style attenuation, rather than modern style "initial health bar", so the regeneration helps less than you'd think.

3. Seems to fall on the Bioshock side of the Doom-Deus Ex line. You've got things like upgrades and a guy giving you missions but you don't seem to have the inventory or dialog systems of Deus Ex. Though dialog-wise I could be wrong.

4. The aesthetic is AMAZING.
