The NES is also a tank that uses a 9v AC adapter - that means it can be powered by just about any other power supply, AC or DC, 9v or 12. the 7805 voltage regulator in an NES makes it beastly.

You can run it on anything down to 5v DC since that's what the power is stepped down to internally.

No, please believe me, a Retorn 3 might be a great SNES stand-in and a passable Genesis stand in, but its NOT a good stand in for a real Nintendo Entertainment System. I have a Retorn 3 and I like it, but not for NES. It's an NOAC (Nintendo on a Chip) and not a very good one unless you buy the very very newest ones.

is there anything wrong with the newest ones?

Thanks so much, everyone! I've decided to try replacing my pins on my sideloader, and if I muck that up, I'll drop the cash for a legitimate NES2. However, at this point, there's not really any reason to. Not to mention the fact that I'm going to have to pop my modding cherry sometime, and an easy surgery like this should be just the thing to do it.

Good luck! Guess I'll bump my BST in a week or so with the stuff I mentioned. I'm dumping the Retro Duo for cost of shipping cuz I broke the SNES side by pulling my Super Gameboy2 out of it's death grip so now it's basically worthless.
