Yet another Saturn modchip thread

Post by vlame »

I got 2 disfunctional saturns and 1 racketboy modchip converted for model 1 usage from nova1313 today, both systems are Model MK-80000, oval buttons. And I still have my Japanese model 2 (Tobias).

1 Saturn (Maeby) has a region switch on the front by the controllers (haven't tested), the zif connected on the mobo (chip insert area) is open, I think missing a piece of plastic.

1 Saturn (Jobe) is now working and booting retail USA games.

I swapped CD-ROMs because Jobe's was for some reason spinning too low and scratching the disc on plastic. Maeby and Jobe are built differently. The ZIF positions are rotated and Maeby's PSU is mounted to the top casing.

Since Jobe is booting retail games I tried to insert the chip. The red light flickers and any games are being read as a 2 track CDs, even retail games.

Or is there a way to un-mod the chip so I can put it in Tobias?

Any ideas?

the mod involves cutting and re-routing a lot of traces, and removing one pin entirely. Not really reversible. I'd either find a working model 1 to slap it in, or just order a new chip for your model 2.
