MD help required.

Post by Demented Collector »

Hi peeps,

Just got a Mega Drive and a few games, the console is PAL and most of the games are PAL, however in the lot are some NTSC/J games and 1 genisis game which I presume is an NTSC/U game.

Also included is an adaptor which I thought was to allow the NTSC/U/J games on the pal system.

Pic...

The adaptor has no stickers on it only the words "GAME ADAPTOR" embosed on it.
So I put the adaptor in the console and try all the NTSC/J games and the 1 genisis game and none work.
I cleaned all the adaptors contacts and tried again, still no game play.
I then split the adaptor to look for internal damage, none found, cleaned the insides thoroughly.
Waited for it to dry and tried again, still no play.

Now here's where the confusion really set in.
I place the Genisis NTSC/U game in the console and it worked. :o :?
I then put the adaptor in the console with various Pal games piggy backed on top and they all work. :? :?

So can anyone tell me...
What is the adaptor for?
Is it a cheat device?
Are MD Pal and Genisis NTSC/U Games interchangable?
How can I play NTSC/J games on my console?

Thanks in advance. :)

Update... I've had the lid off the MD and all the NTSC/J games work fine. :D
Thanks elmagicochrisg for the link.
Tomorrow I'll get the dremel out.

I imagine the adapter has a loose connection.

Depends, most earlier games are, however later games tend to check the systems freq as a form of lock out.

...which a Game Genie or PAR can usually overcome.
