so i finally get a genny model 1 without TMSS...
i got in an early model 1 genny the other day, does not say produced or under license by sega enterprises when you turn it on and has the EXT port and says hi definition graphics on top. i pop it open to clean it and i see i have the dreaded signetics CPU in it. so i decide to swap the CPU out (easier said than done
) after desoldering the old CPU i somehow managed to rip a trace off the board (luckily i was able to repair it by running some wire to the through-hole that trace connected to and connecting it there and to a pin on the CPU) after all that trouble and work it lives! and it now has a motorola CPU in it. im gonna put region switches in it later on and post pics

I remember reading a thread about this before on another site. The 'High Definition Graphics' label is not always an indicator of the earliest model. The best way is by checking the FCC ID on the bottom. Unfortunately, I can't remember which is which and the old one that I have has the Sega CD metal plate screwed on the bottom right now. I will check later today and post what I find.
