Yes, yes it does have a 2600 expansion module. The real WTF with the 5200 is not that it doesn't play 2600 games, but that it doesn't play Atari 800 games. The hardware is pretty much identical. They fixed that with the XEGS but that was too little too late.

The 5200 is a good answer for this thread. There's really very little reason to own one instead of an 800XL computer.

I actually think a ColecoVision with 2600 expansion is pretty much the way to go.

The 2600 expansion module is the entire 2600 feeding video and audio output thru the 5200 cart slot. It has joystick ports right on it along with all the switches. I plugged my Starpath Supercharger Kiosk demo module in it, the thing actually works! :D

Every Console has its unique capabilities
Space Dungeon is the star on this console, the only exclusive home release. Its also a twin stick game. Perfect even if the controller fire buttons are marginal, the second stick is the "Robotron" fire button. A shame the game never got another release on any of the Taito Arcade packs.

It is strange Atari didn't make the 5200 from a 400 or 800 computer. But it does have a better sound chip and uses the pot sticks instead of 2600 sticks. There are a few games that took advantage of potentiometers. Choplifter works beautiful, just like the Apple II+ version. The two sideways speed settings for Galaxian and Space Invaders add to the dodge strategy. The overkill is Gorf, I'm one of the few gamers that like the instant place the ship anywhere in the field with the 5200 Pot controls.

I love the 5200 except for the crappy repair once a week fire buttons, circumvented with 5200 Wico sticks. It also has THE best trakball of any console, a real monster for Centipede and Missile Command. 8)

Wii

I'm sorry, I tried to love it, but in the end of the day, I'm just disappointed with it, I really am!

- The controller just got annoying after a while for some games
- Gamecube and classic controller support is inconsistent
- The online features are dire. I may have to pay for Xbox live, but the service I get is consistent, intuitive, and full of good releases. Plus Indie support
- Lack of third party support. The Wii ended up the same as the Gamecube, (in fact worse! Since the gamecube did have quite a few good 3rd party releases, but the Wii seems to have much less!), in the sense that most of the good games for it are Nintendo games.
- Shovelware. SO... MUCH... SHOVELWARE... O_O

I'm loving the 3DS so far though, so I think Nintendo is improving, but whether or not the WiiU can win me back is another thing altogether.

I agree for the most part. But New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns makes the system worth owning if you can find one for cheap.

I'll let the other complaints go, but the Wii definitely has indie support.

I think he's talking about WiiWare titles, not disc-titles.

Bit.Trip series
Blast Works
Cave Story
Fishie Fishie
Furry Legends (which is a follow-up to the old Fury of the Furries on DOS)
Lost Winds
Max and the Magic Marker
Nyx Quest/Icarian
Toribash
World of Goo
And Yet It Moves

...and many, MANY others. Just look around the WiiWare library--since indie games are exactly what WiiWare is meant for

Mostly. Blast Works was a retail disc game, and there was going to be a retail expanded version of Super Meat Boy, but no publisher would take it.

You are probably going to enjoy the Wiiu then. :)

I doubt it, the Wii u uses the exact same marketing strategy as the Wii. It will be a generation behind the competition as far as graphics are concerned (although this will matter less because the difference between 6th and 7th gen > the difference between 7th and 8th gen). Both systems will draw sales because of an innovative control scheme, and Im not so sure it was wise of nintendo to only allow 1 Wiiu Tablet per console. This console could have had some epic multiplayer capabilities, but I assume that nintendo will try to improve their online service, and encourage online multiplayer.

My Sale thread, lots of nintendo, neo-geo, and sega stuff!
