N64 cartridges

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello everyone,
this is my first post on this forum

I was wondering if any one can help

I got a N64, and i am facing a wierd problem.

When I use some cartridges, they work. Other cartridges don't.

At first, i took it to some videogame store. They spread the cartridge with some kind
of chemical to clean the cartridge "blade" ...i guess
I took a similar chemical from radio shack and used it.

it does clean the cartridge...and some games started to work again.....
but there is still a ton that don't. No matter how much I clean them with this chemical
and cotton swiping it . Its no use....I got like 12 games from my friend but NONE work...

I will have to add that those games are pal and my console is NTSC
i have removed the plastic blocks...this should make them work normaly.

any kind of input is really appreciated

Maybe it is the cartridge connetors inside the console and not the cartridge itself?

Hi thanx for the reply

No I do not have an expansion pack...

I wouldnt know if it is the connectors, but other games work fine
does it mean its from the connectors?
I already played and finished mario 64, goldeneye, and conker bad fur day.
other games like cruisin-usa, south park, super smash bros, mario kart, even aidyn worked fine
although I didnt chose to play through all these games.

I got perfect dark, but it works only multiplayer cause i have no expansion memory.

help?

Like wyatt said... Check the cart slot 'cause even if you clean the games immaculately but the slot is dirty, it can be problematic~

How do I clean the connectors?
and can the connectors be dirty and read some cartridges and others not?

Not working
Gex 64, bomberman 64, mortal kombat 4, mystical ninja, mario kart, banjoo kazooie, waveracer

games that work
007, mario 64, southpark, aydin, wwe no mercy+wrestlemania, starfox,

can I use the same solution to clean the cartridge to clean my 64 connectors?

Thats your problem right there.

NTSC consoles are only compatible with NTSC games. Even if you remove the tabs for Japanese games. (Jap games are still NTSC)

Pal games no matter how hard you wipe them, blow on them, dance around them, shout at them, chant arcane scriptures; will never work unless you have PAL-NTSC converter. :)

I know this for a fact because I have a NTSC N64 and my old PAL one i've had from launch and I thought i'd be able to play my pal games on the NTSC console if I remove the tabs. No dice. It's just not compatible. I think the pins are in a different order on the PAL games.

I would agree with you
except that I had a japanese game (starfox 64 i could figure)
that worked and i played through the first level

this made me confused
I thought yes maybe pal games won't work, but how did this japanese one work?

the mario 64 i played(after breaking the cartridge cover) is for singapore.malaysia, and indonesia.
That is what is written on the cartridge, and it even worked

this is what is confusing me and making me believe that "pal" is not the problem
