Best DS hardware for running emulators?

Post by Blurz »

As the title suggests, I'm looking for some ds hardware that will let me use emulators, sos I can play my favorite games from multiple systems on vacation and such. The only problem is, I hear everyone recommending something diffferetn when someone asks for ds homebrew hardware...

Basically I'm looking for something capable of running emulators smoothly with a fairly large amount of memory. Thanks!

I'm curious too. I know the original DS and DSLite have slower processors but have the advantage of NO Firmware update that tends to kill homebrew and emulators. The newer DSi, DSiXL and 3DS have faster processors, but have firmware that can be updated. The firmware update capability is making me lean towards the older DSLite so I can use the R4 card without fear of a future mandated update that would kill it.

Do any emulators or homebrew take advantage of the faster DSi?

I believe there is a cyclods made just for dsi.. I'm leaning towards the cyclods but want to see if newer, better hardware has become available.
