Strategy Games are not Contemporary

Post by MrPopo »

At least that's the case according to the president of 2k Games. That's why the new X-COM is an FPS. Never mind that everyone who enjoys X-COM is pissed about this. He's got the perfect analogy!
I use the example of music artists. Look at someone old school like Ray Charles, if he would make music today it would still be Ray Charles but he would probably do it more in the style of Kanye West.
I think reading that just gave me an aneurysm.

This guy is great at making games, horrible at analogies.

There is no context to the analogy whatsoever. You can replace "Ray" with any famous musician, and it would still be flat out dumb. And Ray isn't "old", he's dead.

I don't think i've ever wished to be trolled before. But between making X-Com an FPS and the Ray Charles analogy, I can't imagine that 2k is doing anything but that.

I tried to make sense of that analogy....and decided to stop before my brain explodes

Maybe he means if Ray Charles was born around the same time as Kanye. Which I could kinda see. Most of us here on this website seem to honor the system/s of our personal generation.

But that's fine. If he was born now he wouldn't have any previous body of work and expectations of that work. But since he does, if he were alive today he'd keep making Ray Charles style music. That's what people want.

Dumbest quote of the year. And I say boo to X-Com being an FPS. X-Com was popular for what it was, and that wasn't a shooter. No reason it should be one now. If anything, we need more unique games these days.

Forgetting about the stupidity of that analogy....

How the hell are Strategy games not contemporary?

I mean, I get that they're trying to come up with an excuse/nice way of saying they want to jump on the current FPS popularity to try to make more money, but eh screw it, I'll just give it one of these:

Strategy games are not contemporary eh? I guess that's why Starcraft II sold 3 million copies worldwide in its first month.

Oh wait.
