I hear you on this. I genuinely don't give a shit what other people are doing for the most part. It's completely insane to me to think that people just sit on there all day constantly notifying everyone about what they're doing. I just made an account out of boredom, and I wanted to talk to a few specific people. Then chaos. That South Park ep was right on the money.

Its nuts isn't it? :?

Funny you say that though. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I went out with some friends from her job. We were at a restaurant later on, and about 5 minutes after we sat, everyone simultaneously pulled out their phones (I'm serious, its like they planned and synchronized it) and got on Facebook to tell everyone that they were at the restaurant.

I asked them (and I'd just met most of them that night) why on earth they bothered going to the restaurant together if they were going talk on facebook? It doesn't make any sense.

I wasn't rude or anything, I made a joke of it and we laughed, because the situation really is funny, but still.

Nah, I'm with you guys about liking some damn privacy and alone time. Hell I even don't even like having my phone on me or around all the time unlike most people thesedays.

I basically use FB to talk with the people I usually hang out with and that's that. Like I'll post some cool news on someones wall about a new game or something like that, rant about Xenoblade, etc and that's FB for me.

Other people though, as you guys are saying... I've lost track of how many people I've had to hit "Hide all posts by ..." because of how bored I was of hearing them whine every single day of their life and doing nothing about it. Oh man there was this one guy my friends knew, his updates were priceless... but a few months later and we just gave up.

I hated when they added the Chat too, I'd pop on just to check some updates but BAM instant message from a bunch of people when I'm not in the mood to talk at all or anything. I swear for awhile Chat couldn't even be turned off, but I could be wrong.

I could really careless about Google+ as well. It's the same thing and if it grows will be just as bad and silly. I never got into Xanga, Myspace, Life Journal, Facebook, and Google+ is just another one of these things I could completely careless about.

And yeah, FB is pretty terrible. For me it's literally pretty much become Family Book and obviously you don't want you parents or family knowing everything you do (not that I have shit to hide, but come'on a little privacy please? I even had to talk to my mom about bugging me about girls leaving me messages once, it was embarrassing and very annoying, needless drama). It's either that or as the jokes say, friend requests from people you probably once knew and delightfully forgot about ... until FB happened.
Facebook and privacy are mutually exclusive words.

I've never had a Facebook account, and never plan to get one.

Same here.

People don't use Facebook, Facebook uses them.
Since this signature affects old posts, I'm leaving a message here in case anyone searches for my username. This account died in early 2013. I am no longer a fundamentalist.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

I never will either. Fuck Myfacespacebook.

I don't need anyone I've ever spent more than 5 minutes with or are related to be offended that I didn't add them as a friend. I'm not an attention whore. I don't need to inflate my ego with a huge number of fake 'friends' whom I have nothing more in common with than the latest one hit wonder on the radio. I don't need to post pictures of stupid things I've done that will prevent me from getting a job in future. I don't need to tell the entire world I've had a crappy day and I'm going to spend all day Saturday out shopping and announce the minute I leave so won't you skeezy 'friends' on my list please come burgle my domicile because I'll definitely be gone for 6 or more hours blowing my paycheck.

I have had a Facebook account since it was still a pretty novel thing (and limited to college students), and over the years have gone through stretches where I use it a lot and stretches where I don't even look at it for months and months on end. Unfortunately, since I am supposed to be on top of new media stuff all the time for career related reasons, a complete abandonment is inescapable. I've managed to stay away from Twitter so far, but that barrier may crack at some point as well.

I guess what I am saying is that some dusty luddite corner of my heart envies those of you who have never tipped your toe in the social networking pool.
