Not a chance. You can argue about whether FF7 deserves the hype or not, but its price is driven by the perception that it's a historically significant RPG. FF8 and 9 may be fine games, but neither has that going for them.wakeup wrote:Do you guys think Final Fantasy 8 or 9 will inflated in value once places like amazon run out and become kinda like FF7, but less crazy?

Usually you can buy the Final Fantasy Playstation one classics from Square Enix directly.

I don't see FFVII or FFVIII at the moment, but I thought they were there just a few months ago.

Re: PS2 Game Prices Predictions
My friend and I were discussing this not too long ago, and it seems that last generation (xbox, ps2, gamecube) will be the last one to have games that gain any value (if any), as gaming this generation is so mainstream that there will likely never be a shortage of copies of a certain title (especially with digital downloads as previously mentioned) But I dont see many ps2 games shooting up in price to what the ps1 or saturn commands on a lot of games. So if you are buying to collect and play then this is a good time, if you are hoping to invest in some games that will command a high value down the road i would say its a slim chance.

Because they all sold well while they were in print, and then they aged poorly.wakeup wrote:Do you guys think Final Fantasy 8 or 9 will inflated in value once places like amazon run out and become kinda like FF7, but less crazy?
Another thing: Why are Syphon Filters all dirt cheap?

Games will de-value just like comic books unless its issue #1 superman early age of comic books. my ps2 Metal gear solid bundle collection 1-3 will de-value only because they are going re-re-re-release it on PS3 HD collection.

Re: PS2 Game Prices Predictions
There are TONS of comics that rise in value significantly from much later eras. It's the same thing as games, you just have to have the good or rare comics for them to rise in value. The difference with comics is that there is lot more "shovelware" comics than there are shovelware games because there are just so many more comics being made and for such a longer time than video games have been made.benderx wrote:Games will de-value just like comic books unless its issue #1 superman early age of comic books. my ps2 Metal gear solid bundle collection 1-3 will de-value only because they are going re-re-re-release it on PS3 HD collection.

Re: PS2 Game Prices Predictions
There are some games that I've seen increase steadily over the past 6 months alone. The Suikodens, Valkyrie Profile 2, and ZoE2 have all shot up in price around here, and that's if you can find them. Suikoden 3-5 was once very ubiquitous around here, and now you don't see them at all.
Certainly it's a sure bet that the Growlanser games will go up in value. Especially the big Generations box set, again, that's if you can find it.

Re: PS2 Game Prices Predictions
i too am interested. but, i just don't see normal released ps2 games ever reaching high prices. just too many were made.Xeogred wrote:It'll be interesting to see how this develops.
also, the reason a lot of nes games are high in price is because people are trying to collect a full nes set. i don't think too many people drop 2k on stadium events just so they can own a "rare" game. i just don't see too many people trying to collect 2,000+ ps2 games in the future.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Re: PS2 Game Prices Predictions
Agree that prices won't go way up.
Also agree on RPGs holding value and interest since the total audience for an RPG is larger than the smaller pool of people willing to purchase it at release. (What's not to like about interactive stories with music? )
PS2 is a system that allows you to access a wide swath of the history of the first decades of gaming in a way that reflects how it felt to play the games. (On a CRT especially.)
Basically, PS2 + PS1 = a time machine with readily accesible parts.
For that reason I can see some games in narrow genres getting a bit hard to find in nice shape.
Shmups. 2d and early 3d fighters.
However, popular games like Sly Cooper, SOCOM or God of War? Hard to imagine demand ever outstripping supply on those.
