TI-99/4A

Post by chalo 07 »

I just picked up a TI-99/4A Homecomputer/gaming system at a flea market today for fifteen bucks.

It came with all the basic cords, 18 games and weird system/game/cord case...

Some of the more interesting titles are:
Adventure
Tombstone City
Burger Time
Munch Man
Hunt the Wumpus
CarWars
Blasto
Parsec

Any have one of these? Enjoyable? Or was it a waste of fifteen bucks?

I'm on vacation right now so I probably won't test it till I get home, just wanted to see what ya'll thought!
216!

On the Hunt for: Lunar 2, Sega CD RPGs, Mario Party 2, Mario Party 3 (PM me)

I love Blasto! I used to play the arcade version many years ago, I think the only official home version is on the TI-99/4A. Parsec is another exclusive, a SHMUP and Burgertime is based on the Arcade.

Just like I mentioned on the recent C64 thread, a lot of 8 bit computers are forgotten game consoles. They come with carts and can work with a regular TV.

This is the first system I'd ever owned (well, my father bought it for me way back...). It is definitely worth $15!!! That's a steal.

Played these these three a lot back in the day when I'd be somewhere with a machine. Parsec more than the others, but they were all fun. Great price assuming everything works.

Yeah, the TI-99/4A is a great system. It's the first 16-bit home computer. One day I'll try to get the cassette drive.

A couple more good games:

A-Maze-Ing
TI Invaders (It's way better than the Atari VCS version, imo)
Alpiner (If you have the voice module, this one will apparently talk to you. I don't have it, though.)

You have a pretty good lot. I admit, though, that I'm not much of a fan of Tombstone City.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

I just got back from vacation and the TI works great. I needed some major cosmetic cleaning, and several of the carts needed a good douse of rubbing alcohol.

Glad I made the purchase. Parsec and JawBreaker II are probably my favorites.

Does anyone know if you need an external memory peripheral for Adventure? When I boot it up it asks me to select a memory device... but to my knowledge I don't have one.
