N64 hands down. FYI, I'm counting Rare's games as first party.

Yeah, SNES would win this one, IMO.
Buuuut when it comes to the newer N consoles, I'd say it's a bit tough.
N64 had the iconic classics, Mario, Zelda, DK, etc. but not much besides StarFox that deviated from that 3D polygon - 3rd person view style. The 64 also gave us Smash Bros.
GCN brought us random new games like Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Metroid Prime series, and Nintendo's own MGS. And was the first time Doshin the Giant left Japan.
Wii has some nice throw backs. Mostly throw backs actually...Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, DK, Kirby, Punch-Out!!, WarioLand.
I'd have to say Wii I guess.

Absolutely snes
Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Kirby's Dreamland 3, Kirby Super Star, Starfox, F-Zero, Super Mario World, Super Mario All Stars, Yoshis Island...
I don't think you need much more evidence that those

Re: Which nintendo console had the best first party games?
I really wanted just the last 3 consoles. I'm sorry that I wanted all 5 at first. Like I told another person If it was really all 5 of the nintendo consoles it probally would be 1.snes 2.nes 3. n64 4. gamecube 5.wii. That's how I think everyone would justify the systems. But since the last three systems has a remake of the same type of game in it's genre like the mario party's the donkey kong's the mario kart's, super smash bros etc. That is what I was really going for. But yeah snes would take the cake for sureBradtemple87 wrote:Absolutely snes

I'd say Wii. Why?
-Mario Kart Wii seems to me to be the best in the series--especially with the inclusion of retro tracks.
-Super Mario Galaxy is far and away better than the previous 3D Mario games
-Super Mario Galaxy 2 is somehow even more awesome than Super Mario Galaxy
-New Super Mario Bros. Wii is about on par with Super Mario Bros.3, which I've long considered the best 2D Mario game--and has much better multi-player.
-Super Paper Mario improves on the already great Paper Mario series by adding real platforming and action.
-Metroid. Prime. Trilogy. Enough said.
-Punch-Out!! Amazingly fun, great-looking game.
-Donkey Kong Country Returns compares favorably to Rare's DKC trilogy on the SNES.
-Kirby's Epic Yarn is great fun, but we're ALSO finally getting the long-awaited insanely awesome Kirby game that was originally announced for the Cube an eternity ago.
-Smash Bros. Brawl. Easily the most most content out of the Smash Bros. games, and feels more akin to the play from the original SSB. I always disliked Melee for some reason. Also, it's the only game in the series with single-player value that's even worth considering.
-Wario Land is back!
-Face it: in a group setting, Nintendo's minigame collections are amazingly fun.
Oh, and it also has almost every first-party game from every other Nintendo home console

The 3ds in 2012:
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time 3d
Steel Driver
Super Mario 3ds
Paper mario
Mario Kart
Luigi's mansion
Kid Icarus
Super Smash Brothers
Star Fox
Not too shabby.
Best: wii
2nd snes
3rd: 3ds

Nintendo owned Rare back then. Saying Rare's games don't count is like saying Halo doesn't count as an first party Xbox game because it was made by Bungie.BlackDS wrote:Too bad they are not.BoringSupreez wrote:N64 hands down. FYI, I'm counting Rare's games as first party.

SNES.
If not that, then I'd go with N64. My rationale there is that N64 versions of things actually tended to represent a leap forward. Mario 64 wasn't just a Mario game. It was one of the earliest 3D platformers, and set the bar for how to shift those play mechanics to 3D. Even things that played similarly, like Mario Kart, changed due to having actual 3D to utilize.
Subsequent games might have become more refined, but the N64 versions represent bigger, bolder, more significant moves by Nintendo.

By that reasoning, shouldn't it go to the NES? The leap to something from nothing is much greater than the leap to 3D.isiolia wrote:SNES.

Gonna have to say that SNES destroys the competition, as much as nostalgia wanted me to say NES.
